Ok, so i have been reading that these plastic conicals have a ring that is not airtight but there are some that found a way around that.

The there are some out there that still believe in the "open fermentation" and that the air leak is ok. So are there any. Thoughts out there?

Your beer will be fine in a bucket with a lid. Even with a small leak. If your worried about it or you're planning on letting it sit for a while rack of to a secondary carboy. During active fermentation air will be pushed out but once primary fermentation ends its not be likely that much air will get in sense co2 is denser than air. As far as open fermentation I think that would be awesome in the right conditions. Do you own a cave? Small apartment with a litter box may yield different results.
