Howdy folks!
My wife just got a position at Penn State, State College campus. We will be moving there late May/early June. Any pointers on beer spots, food spots, hiking/backpacking, environmental/ecological consulting positions for me , or any other considerations are very warmly appreciated. Thank you!

Stay out of the showers.

PSUMike and jeevo should be able to help.

Seriously though - Willoughbys maybe and then just chug white rajah at the Brew Kettle.

....after the middleburg heights fat heads of course.

Good thing you came back correct. I might send you some ULTRA FRESHIE Headhunter if you act right.

And I haven’t been to one in a long ass while, but if you find yourself near a lizardville location, they always had some nice ass bottles. Pricey, but selection was always good. Again no idea what they’re like now.

I only got drunk twice last week, been exercising and trying to curb my cigthusiasm. Cigs suck, i'm tired of them.

You know what i'm not tired of? Our friendship.

EDIT: and who you callin soggy moarhops? with yo scruffy looking nerf herdin ass.

Probably meaningless but I think my last cig was with you at BG. #specialmoments #dontyouforgetaboutme

I might be able to help you out with the consulting if you want to work out of Williamsport. Pretty sure a few other consultants have offices in state college though. I also think Rex energy has a big office there too but it's tough to get in with the producers.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a 2018 prediction:

This will be the year of an overabundance of amazing beer (shelf turd style). I've been seeing signs of it already. Bourbon paradise and vanilla noir on the shelves at GEMDWW today. Plus reasonably priced bottles of bb victory at Sea and bells bb cherry stout (which I loved btw). Just popped a bottle of new Belgium sour saison. This stuff is $16/6 pack, slightly tart saison, not life changing but compared to a few years ago it's great. I bet it'll go largely unnoticed in our market. Beers like GI Sofie seem to be long forgotten.

Maybe this is the beginning of the bubble. I don't know. I for one am really enjoying it but I'm not sure it's going to last. I think the shift of focus to hyper local breweries has put the package game in a weird spot. Discuss.

dadavat I agree with this completely, both here in NC and when I was just in PA last week. Everytime I got to a local bottle shop, I think about how good the selection is compared to a few years ago, and if you keep up with bottle shops FB pages, you can even get super fresh haze bombs that were distrod. It hasnt deterred me much from buying locally because I like supporting quality breweries, but it has certainly curtailed my trading for random things.

Maybe....but this is the key...

reasonably priced bottles

Also...

amazing beer.
=/=
not life changing

For me, the bubble will not burst until my shelves are better (cost + quality) than my local...until then there is room for growth in both areas.

I'll say that my interest in other people's beer/trading has completely disintegrated though.there's plenty locally and on shelves that i have no interest in spending money on shipping or drinking stupid bottles I've never heard of at a share.

Full disclosure - on beer.

Yeah I don't see much point in trading if you can't keep up with your local stuff

Hey buddy. As Dogleg mentioned, I can definitely shoot you some pointers and help regarding State College. I'll shoot you a pm here shortly.

Going to THE CLEVE next weekend. Any breweries I need to check out?

And don't ******* say GLBC either.
noble beast downtown is probz the best new/not-fatheads-or-GLBC brewery around here. not sure it warrants a special trip but if ur in the area i'd recommend it. their food is legit too. try the corn dog, unless u don't like corn dogs.... then don't

Checked out Abjuration this weekend. First off, the set up is bizarre to say the least. They have like 20% of the lobby of a movie theater. 4 dedicated tables and 1 guy working. If a keg kicks, he has to leave, walk around the building, change the keg, and come back effectively shutting it down temporarily. But I really don't give a **** about ambiance if you're making great beer. However, the beer was a mixed bag ranging from pretty good to needs a rework.

In order of my preference...

Vanilla Oak Belgian Pale was pretty tasty. No head and little carb but the vanilla cut the booziness nicely and it drank a lot less than the 15% ABV it has. I enjoyed this one.

DIPA had a nice nose and flavor. Nothing outstanding. Nothing off-putting. Fairly tropical in profile, hazy, low bitterness, mid-range body. Serviceable. I'd drink it if offered but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Liked it, didn't love it.

The chocolate chili stout has potential but @ 6.9%, it's just too light bodied. Chocolate and spice come through but it's watery. Some roasty qualities and fairly easy to drink. If this was 10-12%, I think it would have been my favorite.

The IPA though was pretty poor. It had virtually 0 hop presence at all. Very light on the nose and nothing on the flavor. It tastes like water. It also had some residual sweetness than lead me to believe it was a little under-attenuated. This one needs some reworking as it's not good in it's current state.

They need some time to fine tune everything. It's not bad but nothing I had would have me rushing back. Still on my radar but I'll wait until I hear other reviews after some time before passing judgement.

You forgot to answer the most important question, were your wheels still on your car when you left?

Kind of intrigued by this, but...
