Can’t go wrong with anything laphroaig or ardbeg IMO. Haven’t had An Oa yet, so as a huge Islay Scotch fan, that would be at the top of my list of bottles to be gifted.
An Oa is ok, I prefer Ardbeg 10 though & it's not readily available in PA yet. Laphroaig Triple Wood is a good sleeper pick, should be able to find it at the "Premium Collection" lcb stores & although not islay, Talisker Distillers Edition is another sleeper pick for peat.

I don’t think triple wood is as good as the price would indicate. It’s definitely not bad, but I think the higher price is more of a reflection of it being cask strength and sherried than actually that good.

I really do love ardbeg 10 though. Can’t argue with that. And laphroaig 10 and quarter cask. All staples on my Scotch shelf.

An Oa was my pick based purely on being “somewhat” newer and having not had it yet.

I love love love love love Sherry finished heavily peated whisky. Triple Wood, Uigeadail, Bowmore Deepest Sherry, Kilchoman Loch Gorm, mmmmm tasty.

Need a gift. Best Islay Scotch in the $50-70 range?
Write down whatever suggestions the dopes here give you and wipe your ass with it. Then go buy Bowmore or Bunnahabhain. If you find yourself someplace with better distro than here, Caol Ila 12 year is really nice. While not Islay, BenRiach Curiositas is pretty ******* peaty as well.

Bunnahabhain is an unpeated whisky.

In all fairness the original question was asking for an Islay whisky and not specifically for something peated. And Bunnahabhain is on Islay.
True, but usually when someone wants an Islay they usually want that intense smoke & peat. Bunnahabhain ain't it, very low percentage of peated malt used so very light smokiness and the fairly light peat flavor comes from their water source. I enjoy Bunnahabhain for what it is but it's not typical for an Islay.

Went to Cinderlands last night and was pretty surprised at how good it was for a place that came out of nowhere. IPA had small traces of diacetyl, but very minimal and some might not even notice. The coffee stout, berliner, and dry hopped saison were all pretty tasty. Food looked great too, but didn't eat. Heard the dude used to brew at Solemn Oath. Anyone know anything about that?

Late on the Draai Laag talks but I tried Jetala the other day and was really pleased. That was a tasty beverage!

Anybody have any good barleywine(besides Gratitude) recommendations that we can get locally? With this cold ass weather we got it put me in the mood to binge with some b-wine. English style preferred.

jagoffbrewer nice job on the Whole Punch Hawaiian Punch ... tried it last weekend when visiting a buddy and brought a crowler back north to share with friends. Everyone liked it!

Bumped into this non-caped brew-sader today at Mad Mex South Hills--nice seeing you again, jagoffbrewer and cheers to recent efforts. Had the Korean burrito and my youngest yelled at erryone the whole time...though did enjoy a Whole Punch there.

Shadyside MD has jw Lee's sometimes. Roundabout has heinis on draft. Maybe a bottle of billionaire floating around at a caliente for $30. Other than that we're in a bw desert.

The Independent has a Lee's on tap right now & Piper's has Old Foghorn on tap with a Heini under it. Founders Backwoods Bastard is pretty readily available too.

Draft only, but Rock Bottom's got a barrel-aged lagerwine on now that's mighty tasty.
