Honest opinions not acceptable, only praise? Pretty sure there was positive to that review

Wait I should know this answer already. tommyguz was crucified for not liking DoubleMex ... makes sense now

It seemed like an incredibly transparent way to get in a dig at BG, very thinly disguised with your "praise", which was backhanded at best.

And there's a huge difference between constructive criticism and accusing a brewery of releasing an infected beer. Especially when that's based on two guys who may or may not have noticed something and they may or may not know what in the world they're talking about.

You bring up a great point that I've seen a lot of recently. Most people don't know what the **** they're talking about. Untapped reviews are the worst. Homebrewers (no offense) can be pretty bad. Everyone thinks they're an expert nowadays. Myself included. But my opinion is usually right at least.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know what the **** I'm talking about, in a technical sense, about beer. My knowledge basically begins and ends in whether or not I think something tastes good.

I read this website occasionally, www.brulosophy.com and they do experiments that single out one part of the beer making process and do a blind tasting survey to see if anyone can tell the difference. For example, high temp vs. low temp primary fermentation, or lots of dry hop vs. little dry hop, etc... The thing I find frustrating about these experiments though is that there is very rarely (if ever) a complete consensus from all tasters that are able to pick out a difference in the results. It's almost always something like "16 out of 30 people were able to tell the difference between an ale and a lager".

Yeah, there are almost never statistically significant results from those. Cool site, though - I like the quick & sloppy lager "recipe" that Malcolm did a while back (I think for last year's NHC).

You ever go to one of those? He holds them at Grist House every other month or so.

See i'm not even talking statistically significant, some of those seem to me like it should be a slam dunk 100% tell the difference, but it never turns out that way. Very informative website nonetheless.

I haven't made it to one yet. I would very much like to go but it never seems to work out.

I've been doing some of the lager methods from that Site with good results. WLP029 can make a good Helles.

I actually just pitched 34/70 in a Maerzen yesterday at 66 degrees. Hoping it gets good results, and I can dependably churn out various lagers with it.

I think dadavat and OneDropSoup are the rightest people on the internet. Meaning I agree with them most of the time.

Agree with that. With that, some people are more sensitive to certain flavors than others.
Side note: my comment wasn't meant to be a jab but I can see how it can be taken that way. Noting what was mentioned and if no one else notices that going forward, that's awesome. And like that earlier post by preluderl , it doesn't mean I'm not going to try their next offering. Not everyone loves every beer the same.

I've done a couple, they're not easy. You have 3 cups, you get lost in over analyzing ****, especially when you find out the difference was can anyone tell the difference between Vienna & Victory malt in this 120 Ibu IPA?

Or can you tell the difference between these 2 horribly fermented Berliner Weisses. That was an awful one.

Thread now reads like a bunch of old guys sitting on a porch, shooting BB guns at squirrels and pining for the way things used to be.

"In my day, you could see right through an IPA and Headhunter was king! Now all these youngins out here with their unfiltered ******** and their rap music. It just ain't the way it used to be, I tell ya."

In my day, we listened to rap music. Idk what the kids are listening to today. Other rap music?

I didn't like this year's sn Oktoberfest as much as last year. Also surprised the yinz cans aren't flying off the shelves.
