It's a fantastic beer. Tartness level of a traditional German-brewed Berliner or Gose. Not overly sour like most 'Merican ones. Smoke is subtle too. Works really well together.

You're talking about the Draai Laag one? Was wondering if someone could compare it to the Freigeist beer since Abraxxxas is my only experience with simultaneous smoke and tart. But I guess that one's not as common as I thought? Could've sworn I even saw it at GEMDRFL not long ago.

Not familiar with the beer you mentioned, is this what you meant?

Looks like the regular is just a berliner. Appears they did a couple fruited versions also.

Oh weird, didn't even realize the smoked one wasn't the original. The label reads as if the entirety of the name is Freigeist Abraxxxas. Never actually heard of or seen https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10574/57433/ in a bar or store, but I've seen a fair amount of the one you linked to.

I misread on my phone. Missed the "both this and" part of "has anyone tried both this and Freigeist Abraxxxxxxxxxxxxxxas."

Just wanted to chime in and say how much I enjoyed Freigeist.

What beer are you trying to compare to Freigeist Abraxxas? I really like Freigeist Abraxxas. I tried to look back and see but couldn't find it in 30 seconds.

Dude...which abraxas are you talking about? freigeist? Or perennial? Or some super hyped something else? Too lazy. But still curious. No time.

Anyone else remember when H1KB used to bring in singles of Bomb! and sell them for $30?

Ew. No don't remember that. I don't really think I was venturing out there anymore by the time bomb came around though. $10 ($11) heady cans were laughable AF (Asinine Fees) though.

Bomb! is solid but way overpriced. Like im actually frustrated I spent $9 on the bottle. Hopefully birthday bomb is better.
It won't be. Bomb isn't the same as it was a couple years ago, there were some recipe changes. Prairie was bought by the brewery that was contract brewing a lot of their beers. You would think everything would come out tasting the same but it doesn't. I used to be a huge fan of theirs but the quality just isn't what it was.

Agreed.

Those gold, blue and orange waxed bombs were insanely good and not even close to the same beer and they put out now. I paid $30 on ebay for a gold wax and I would gladly do it again, that's how great it was.

I think $30 Bomb! was the moment that I finally said to myself that their prices were untenable for me to continue to visit there on even a semi-regular basis.

I'm not even into stouts but I would order the **** out of Bomb! online or pay whatever price places wanted when I saw it in travels. Quality started suffering what seemed to be about a year before American Solera started.

even so. I dont think I could ever pay $30 for a 12oz of anything unless I was promised it was god's literal nectar in NEIPA form.
