Really? I've never been that into it, but that might just be me being cheap. What am I missing?
Well it used to be an apartment I'm guessing, so it has a certain vibe to it. The bartenders are awesome and super friendly. And I'm not a fan of wine by any means (I'm told their selection is one of the best in the city though, both for price and variety) but they always have a good local beer selection (and cans of Old German for $2). The cocktails are fantastic though, they make their own mixers and use fresh fruit and actually try to make a really good drink. And the food selection is exactly what I want - cured meats, cheese, pickles, well made paninis, etc, and again using all local stuff. Great music selection. I could go on and on. Go for it Ben. Don't be afraid.

Okay, sold!

2 parts bourbon
1 part BPT syrup
2 healthy dashes Fee Bros. BA Bitters
2 slices of lemon rind: one snapped and stirred into the drink, one rubbed over the rim of your glass
1 big ass ice cube

  • M&P uses Bulleit but I never bother making cocktails with anything under 100 proof, most BiB's are perfect for this. EW White Label is my go to
  • BPT Syrup: make simple syrup but steep 2 sprigs thyme and 10-12 black peppercorns for 10-15min
  • The bitters are the key ingredient, don't skimp
  • You want the drink cold but not watered down, chill your glass beforehand
  • No cherries or orange under any circumstances

Even these cherries? They're pretty good...

If you have a porter (I've used Black Butte) laying around try this beer cocktail:

1 oz. Campari
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
Porter Beer
Orange slice, for garnish

Combine the Campari and sweet vermouth in a wine glass. Top with the porter and garnish with the orange slice.

I know what you're thinking, "A porter and campari mixed together? No thank you, dildo, I hate trying new things". It's delicious

You must have read Paste magazine's "50 bourbons to namedrop and impress your MBA prof with" and now fancy yourself the next Fred Minnick. LMK when u find a better BiB under $15 jabroni.

Cherries have their place in a lot of cocktails, just not the Meat Old Fashioned. Though I prefer the Tailhook Bada Bing cherries for Manhattans. Campari AND Vermouth though I could not stomach. A Stigs' family Manhattan is about 4 parts OGD 114, half a splash of shelf vermouth, and some Bings on rocks. Every time I order a Manhattan out, there's way too much vermouth.

Quick digression from cocktailtalk.com.

Anyone found a reliable source for Off Color yet? Preferably 4 or 6-packs, not so much cases/single bottles. Saw some singles at Bierport once and Predator at WF Wex but haven't really seen a nice selection at any one place yet.

Random observation...drinking a sour prior to an IPA makes the IPA taste so much better. I had an Epic Brainless on Cherries (pretty ****** BTW) before a Good Vibes tonight and the Good Vibes tasted better than it ever has before despite sitting in my fridge ~2 weeks plus who knows when it was bottled.

Mildly drunk atm but has anyone experienced this phenomenon before?

Do you think it helped that the sour beer was also kinda lousy?

We just got a delivery of Scurry and Troublesome yesterday and a couple kegs of them as well. You should see them in the wild soon.

Ive had many experiences of one beer making the other taste better or worse in succession. I think this phenomenon is vastly overlooked.

I was at the House for lunch today and wanted to update folks that I noticed an across the board price decrease on pretty much all their pricier stuff of $3-4. They must be listening ;)

Their food and draft list were awesome as always.

Shoutout to USER atGREG for the proper Proper lunch rec. Was able to try two nonPittsburgh beers. Also, allowed me to watch my business client's business.
