So kbuzz, how 'bout dem Buccos?

Yeah...**** that Liriano trade...was there ever an explanation for that ****?

I was okay with everything overall until I heard that McGuire was thrown into the Liriano trade. I was a little perturbed that they needed to give up a top ten prospect to unload him, but is what it is I guess....but TWO top ten prospects?? Just doesn't make any sense. Why was it that necessary to get rid of Liriano that you trade away two good prospects?

Come on, bub. You know the answer.

Bucco gone' Bucco. Did just enough to say they tried, but not enough to really, actually try.

I can't even say that this year. Normally I defend their frugality because I understand why they do it. And this year I would have made even more exceptions because they are playing like crap...but man, I just don't get why they did it. Why not just keep Liriano and your prospects? Not like you improved dramatically over the output he was giving you...there has to be some other factor we're unaware of. Like that they felt Liriano was becoming bad in the clubhouse or something like that.

It has to be more than just a salary dump. You don't use two talented prospects to dump a single salary.

Go Nutting's wallet! Go Nutting's wallet!

I can't get into the Nutting thing. He's not a free spender, sure...but he's also not just trying to simply pocket cash. The truth is somewhere in the middle.

Regardless of anyone's thoughts on Nutting's motivation, the Liriano trade, to me, is an aberration from the recent norm in that even as a salary dump it makes no sense.

They always do just enough to keep the fan base on the hook to keep buying tickets without ever truly trying to win on a larger level. I don't think they'll ever win the World Series, and probably not the NL Central while he owns the club.

Just my opinion as a non-Buccos fan. I wish em' the best, but they're in an extremely tough division to win when winning isn't your primary concern.

It's all global warming's fault. He needs as much money as he can get now cuz soon there won't be no more snow at 7 springs (said in the most yinzerish voice possible).

Like clockwork, Huntington gave the usual "We plan on using the money saved from the the dumped salaries towards acquiring and extending next season's assets".

So you're okay with them essentially trading Neil Walker for someone who they already had on their roster.o_O

No, not okay with it...but understand the need to dump Niese at least. It was a mistake sure...but do you continue on in denial? Or correct it? All I'm saying is that I understand what they're doing (other than the Liriano deal). I wasn't thrilled with the Niese deal back then, but was willing to wait it out. Didn't work out obviously. So what are you gonna do...continue to carry that salary in your bullpen? No...you dump it.

Finished off all the Grats and Ba Grats last night while watching this dope-ass documentary

Horrible movie/beer pairing really but straight up **** it who cares i don't get off my back.

Any of you Cockemons excited for the Olympics? I am. Working on event based beer pairings as we speak.

Tonya Harding hiring a hitman to take out Nancy Kerrigan's knees was one of the most 90's things ever. I haven't watched the Olympics since then, and it's still the first thing I think of when I hear people talking about the Olympics.

Oddly, I've met that dude. He worked as head of security at my brothers bar in CA. Fast cash didn't work out well for him.
EDIT: I'm not supposed to talk about it, but screw him.

Regarding Rusty Gold brewery, their opening date is being pushed back to September sometime. I know a couple of the construction guys working there now.
Also, I'm on "the list" for a sample tasting event pre-opening to public with a +1 if anyone is interested.

Sorry to derail the conversation, but jagoffbrewer posted a pic of a saison he's brewing with whole ears of corn, which sounds kind of awesome.
Thanks man. I figure because all of our beers taste of rotting taint adding off flavors on purpose might help! The thought behind the beer is when farm workers from Wallonia first immigrated to the US and made beer they may have been using corn so I tried to replicate what they might have done. I didn't add whole ears, I cut the kernels from the cob and added some husks. The corn was very sweet because of the Summer we've had and gave 6 points to the gravity even though it was only roughly 10lbs. I also used 10% flaked maize. I added more kernels, cobs, and husks to the whirlpool and knocked out.

This beer will basically be fermented corn soup! MMMMMMmmmmmmMMMMMM

GET ******* JACKED TO DRINK MY GARBAGE CORN BEER!

Stillwater Classique is possibly the beer I drink the most, and I'm pretty sure it's just the old National Premium malt bill (six row, rice, corn) with Saison yeast. I've attempted to clone it twice, with varying results.

Tl;dr Corn all the Saison
