I'm into strictly 80's Joel

I liked Sparta better then Mars Volta after the split, but I might be in the minority. They both got super strange on the second album and forward.
I liked both, but neither as much as at the drive in. I appreciated Sparta, but they were a little too emo, and I could only listen in smaller doses. Still really liked some of their songs. I like Mars Volta more, that first album was totally different and awesome. Unfortunately I never could get into their 2nd album and it kinda caused me to lose interest overall..

Agree RE Sparta. I could never get into ATDI.

I wasn't into them back in the day really, i'd casually listen with my friends that were but i really only got into their stuff in the last couple years. That Vaya album has grown on me like a tumor, but

Highschool McMatt7 was listening to Wutang and the Jesus Lizard. Pavement and Silkworm and Smog and the Dismemberment Plan, Of Montreal, Songs Ohia, Palace, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk, Nas, my buddy made me 1000 mix tapes. I still have them, but no tape deck in my car which is ******* LAME.

Not to break up this Omar Rodriguez-Lopez circle jerk, but any of your ninjas have first hand experience visiting Trillium, HF or the new Alchemist spot in Stowe? Wife and I are going to make a run up through NE in October and I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for what to expect.

If anyone has first hand experience I'd love to bend your ear about it if thas cool and what not.

Mars Volta definitely put on a better show even on the first tour of both bands. I appreciated Mars Volta more later on, but initially was digging Sparta. Now I'm stuck with mother ******* goose rhymes and songs.

I went to HF (and the Burlington area for a few days) then Boston and the OG Trill spot last summer.

If you just want to pick up stuff real quick go to the downtown trillium. No samples or pours. They move really quick unless it's a huge release. if you want the experience go to Canton.

Good info. We're going to spend a night in Boston and I'm not really going to try to hit anything else, so time isn't a huge concern. If Canton is the cooler spot I may try for that one.

My GOAT is The Pixies. I was in a band that pretty much owed its life to them. Lately been into reverb-heavy garage-punk - Thee Oh Sees, Wavves, Best Coast, et al. - & old CBGB stuff.

And if any of the Radiohead nerds or GaR heshers on here want something to ridicule me over, I also dig The Bee-Gees, ABBA, The Monkees, & third wave ska.

Thee Oh Sees and basically just all John Dwyer acts are amazing. Been lucky enough to see them play a few times and it's always a blast.

I've been on a mostly 60s-70s pop kick recently. Some of the big orchestral Phil Spector type stuff and the chilled out summery stuff is really great when it's hot as balls outside.

But I would mostly fall under the umbrella of "metal". But I would say moreso most things loud and fast.

These jams have been my jams lately, enjoyable jams for sure

ATDI all day long. One of my favorite shows from college. Don't get kbuzz and I going on Fugazi.......

Did you see that Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has 12 solo albums coming out? Overkill much? But I have to say that I am looking forward to the one with John Frusciante.

Rocking out to Car Seat Headrest* and drinking Stillwater Classique. That's been my Summer thus far.

*yes, it's a terrible band name, but pretty sure he was going for that

I've had Teens of Denial since it came out and can't quite seem to "get it". There are a few tunes that I enjoy but as a whole it sags a bit. I felt the same about the Courtney Barnett album, or all of the Titus Andronicus albums. Everyone tells me how great their live shows but what does that have to do with the album?

I'm on the Volta side for sure. Frances the Mute got a little weird, but they got back on track with Amputechture. It's hard to beat Omar's work on Deloused though.

I was just about to chime in on De Loused. Such a cool record. Drunkship of Laterns made me think they were going to be an incredible new age prog group. But the following albums only really had 1, max 2 songs that captured my attention at the level of De Loused.

I'm going to Stowe in a few weeks. Alchemist should be easy to get a case now. I haven't been to HF but will let you know how it goes.

I do hit the skip button a few times when listening to it. It's one of those bands that I heard on Sirius XMU a few times, didn't quite get it, then one day it sort of fell into place. "Something Soon" from their EP is what clicked for me.

Courtney Barnett is good, but I don't like it enough to buy it for repeat listening. It's one of those things where if it comes on the radio, I don't see what else is on. I like it but don't love it.

I ******* love Titus Andronicus.

Haven't clicked with Damaged Bug, &, but I used to spin Pink & Brown & The Hospitals on the radio a lot. And though Thee Oh Sees are never not awesome, I really miss Brigid.

I feel like you could make one kick ass 8 song split Ep between the Barnett and Car Seat Headrest albums.

Just did a New England Trip in May. Went to HF on a Thursday at opening and it was a fairly relaxed experience. There are separate lines for pours and for growler fills. Take home bottles are in a separate building.

We did an in an out trip to Trillium, and would agree with chefduff2 that Canton would be a better experience.

Jack's abbey was great, tons of taps and damn good food, only 30 minutes from the city. I would recommend the clam and bacon pizza.

Jesus, dude has been sitting on quite a bit of material apparently, I'll have to take a week's vacation and load up on reefer for a listening party. A 1 man listening party.
