I had decided as soon as I read the email that I was out.

I wasn't a fan of this approach. Completely disregards locals and makes it easy to round up mules. I also didn't like the price point, but knew that wouldn't stop anyone, and that it was just me being an old man.

That's the long and short for me as well.

Love those guys, and this isn't gonna change that... But I really hope that go back to the old system moving forward.

I honestly can't see them doing this again...at least not exclusively. Could see something like two allotments - one local/sign-up and another one online? Not sure why they decided to go in this direction (lack of resources for the sign-up process? Wanting to expand their reach?), but it's def a bummer. And this coming from a guy who technically benefits from this method.

$24 did jump out at me as well. But in the context of all this silly beer stuff, that makes sense for a 750, right?

I feel like The Bruery number of $30 for a 750ml of BA stout is still my mental threshold. Under $30 and I don't generally bat an eye. That's not to say that it's not spendy, but maybe I'm just desensitized because the prices are so high in a lot of instances.

I should clarify that there is a price perception with "quality" and I think that has more to do it with it than anything over me knocking BG on their price point. The trend has been upwards for a while, they are just keeping with the times. I think them selling out is less than a minute is all the proof needed that the price was just fine.

I think they have used almost every style of releasing a beer at this point and we can agree that no release makes everyone happy. This could be said about any brewery. I liked it because I could know I could get the beer and make a trip to Pittsburgh and have a nice time without lines. ‍♂️

I obviously can't speak for them, but didn't they have people lined up early and all of the first day's allotments spoken for well before the taproom opened? My understanding is they switched it up last year to alleviate the traffic and congestion that it caused in the previous release but if a bunch of people showed up early then it may not have done that.

I think they're still feeling their way around and trying to find an ideal solution to a difficult problem. They have super desired beer but they don't have the production to fulfill anything beyond a fraction of that demand, finding a balance to keep your neighbors, internet loudmouths (not a knock on anyone here, but generally speaking there is usually a handful of people that raise hell at any big release from any brewery), and loyal customers happy is a tough task.

I don't know what a good solution is, short of increased production. On the whole, I'm not a fan of Eventbrite preregistering, and I say that as someone who did manage to get an allotment this year.

So you got a set?!

I managed to grab two right at noon, I got you covered if you need one. I used the app and was already registered on Eventbrite. Sounds like I got lucky. $24 is a little much, but I’d rather pay that then have to buy chocolates and glassware to get my beer.

I was on the page right as it turned to 12. When I clicked on Register the box popped up, but not the drop down to choose the bottles. I refreshed the page and they were gone.

That's been my experience with EventBrite pretty much full stop for beer releases though. I honestly can't think of a single time where I got in.

I was a fan of the multi-day, in-person registration. It gave people multiple opportunities to register and, if someone from out of town did desire to come in, it did give them at least a chance to do so. That differs from the way Voodoo does it, which is just a mad dash cattle call. I see the merits of that method as well as it truly does cater to locals first, but I thought the way BG had been doing this was kind of the best of both worlds.

Oh well, it's just beer. Still love the guys and I hope they find their way.

They may have continued that way if it wasnt for the IV debacle where you had people signing up multiple days, and then them running out of the initial allotments and having to cut the number of bottles people got. Online sales are always going to go the fastest since it has the highest exposure. I will just have to crack a bottle from last year, maybe do a mini vert since I have an OG bottle as well.

There's no perfect system, that's for sure.
