Went to Cobblehaus in coraopolis on Friday. Pretty rough. Tried them all (I think), Berliner, Hefe, Tripel, Black IPA, Stout, American IPA.

The stout and black IPA may as well have been the same beer. Kinda hoping they poured me the same beer twice. My biggest gripe was that everything tasted watered down. Even the tripel. It was a cool place inside and very good service, but I would not reccomend going for the beer.

I think their shtick was more "old world styles" in a broad kinda way. You're not thinking of Helicon?

Yeah this is their tagline, was plastered all over the building. 6/8 ppl I was with and everyone else in the bar were strictly drinking Arsenal and Apis. They were also offering a shot of raspberry syrup in the berliner. I chose without and really messed up.

Hoping you folks can give me a suggestion. I will be driving from Cleveland to Philadelphia and would like a place between to stop for the next night. I was thinking of state college, but the hotel rates are crazy. Completely unfamiliar to the area so any tips are appreciated.

I'm assuming you'll be going 76 most of the way? If so, then I'd say look around the Breezewood area. Should be relatively inexpensive. If you're going on 76, Altoona will be a little out of the way and Punxy will be very out of the way.

Definitely not in Breezewood. Not sure of the surrounding area.

If you're willing to travel out of your way and go the longer route, then you have more options. Going 76 the whole way is definitely the most direct but outside of Harrisburg, you're going through farm towns almost exclusively. Seven Springs is a decent mountain resort but that's basically it.

Now if you wanted to take 80 across then drop down on 476, you're still going to be going through exclusively farm towns but there is Penn State/State College, Punxy, Lock Haven, Bloomsburg on the way. You would be going near Bullfrog, Selin's Grove, and a few others going this route.

If you've never been, PA is essentially Philly on one end, Pittsburgh on the other, and Kentucky in between.

Any breweries or sights worth seeing in the area?

The closest brewery to Breezewood would be Olde Bedford, about 20-ish minutes west & not far off the Turnpike (76). They've only been open about four months & are still feeling their way around. Nothing to hunt down, but if you're in the area anyway, might as well.

As far as other stuff to see/do, there's not a tremendous amount. Some national parks for hiking, some historical sites. Typical rural American stuff.

Hey, MsDropSoup and I spent our anniversary there 1 year. I love that kind of Mid-State, Roadside America type ****, but not everyone owns multiple Rick Sebak specials on DVD.

Ok, so I opened a 2016 BG DoubleMex and it’s still tasting great. No green peppers, No off flavors. Some of the additions muted a little, but still a wonderful beer. I hope to drink it again some day.

Visited H1KB in Warrendale last night for the first time.

Food was solid, taplist is extensive but still pretty meh. Probably overpaid for a to-go bottle of that blackberry Tilqin goooooze, but oh well.

Overall, an enjoyable visit.

Yeah we drove up there and my wife agonized about going to either Bakn or H1KB. Decided on The House and were satisfied with our choice.

I don't know what pricing is appropriate for Tilqin, but it didn't seem insanely overpriced to me.
