Sp how are so many people in here claiming they've never heard of Paste? When the blind taste testing of 116 IPAs came out last year, I'm pretty sure there was a discussion of some sort about it.

Second, from the article, "Tasters included professional beer writers, brewery owners, multiple professional brewmasters, beer reps and multiple BJCP-certified tasters." So I think it's a little unreasonable to say they were a bunch of dummies who don't know what they're talking about. The fact that there's a pretty obvious correlation between well-ranked beers in this tasting, whether it's GABF or other medals, high ratings on BA/RB, etc only solidifies that these guys aren't completely off their rocker.

Everyone of course is entitled to their opinion. But can the people who disagree with the ranking take one ****** minute off from their keyboard-comando-ing, and spewing their opinions that nobody asked for, and just be happy for BG?

Congrats to brewgentlemen, ZachBrewGentlemen, Rjdillman and crew. I for one think this is pretty ****** cool.

Now on a serious note, is anyone else in line here at BG yet for the release of Akamai? I think it's a safe assumption they'll be out of that and General Braddock's by the end of the day.

Pump the brakes there sport. I was tagged numerous times regarding the article so can I go back to "keyboard-camando-ing"? Have you met many beer writers, brewery owners, or beer reps? Some of the biggest dummies you'll ever come across. I'd be willing to bet money that it wasn't all the same people that judged those beers from start to finish which makes the entire list invalid.

Lists from obscure magazines don't mean ****. To a lesser extent, neither do GABF medals or ratings on whatever for that matter. Church Brew Works won GABF large brewpub of the year a few years back for context.

Who lines up for Akamai? It's been available since early June.

So homebrew medals mean everything but GABF medals mean nothing.

What does mean **** then? Seriously, whose opinion do you respect & listen to, other than your own?

I don't think anyone thought shuggy would be stoked about BG getting distinction but I think a lot of you guys baited him into commenting.

Paste magazine used to be an interesting magazine when it came out. You would get a mix CD of the newest singles from all types of genres. I had a subscription for a year or so when it first started before it was cool. They evolved into a soft-core-Maxim-like publication but they have been writing a lot of beer related articles recently so I think they take it seriously or they know that people want to read about it. A huge majority of breweries that made the list also tweeted about it. Paste isn't some obscure publication just because you haven't heard of it.

Dipping out of work early today for Akamai, Lou, and General Braddock's growlers... sick my duck
Also had a Paste subscription when it first started. That's all I have to add to this discussion.

So see you at Voodoo or BG next then?

barflybastard doesn't hang out with people from the internet anymore or he would have told me he was going to Pipers today, i'm sorry but you're out of luck he doesn't want to hang out with you me or anyone else ant BG or Voodoo.

(i heard from an inside source that he didn't even drink beer at the bar today at Pipers, he got a 7&7 and read the Butler Eagle at a booth. Alone.)

Your expert opinion as an occasional beer writer. Those guys know their ****.
Hey man, windows ain't free.

I'll restate the question in hopes that you'll give an honest answer - Is there anyone whose opinion you'll listen to because you believe they just plain know their stuff? I mean, GABF judges tend to come with pretty hefty credentials.

Due to ur boy catlicks' words of wisdom, I would like to apologize for my overly harsh and insensitive comments I made about Draai Laag. After they kicked my kids out of the brewery and some ******* dropped a slice of pizza on my back and then ate the damn thing during a beer release, I have been struggling with that place.
Still my favorite thing that's ever happened at a beer release.

Mine was at the first Voodoo BRC release in Meadville...when I gave a semi-regular trade partner a bottle of MOAS for nothing just cause I knew it was a long time want of his...then later that night he told me that he was so hammered that he dropped the unopened bottle and it shattered on the ground in front of him. Unsure if related, but I never heard from the dude again. Good stuff.

Pretty sure there wasn't any GABF judges involved with Paste. I'm sure they would have mentioned that had it been the case. My boy C is the only person who's palate is something I will never question. He knows his **** and he's never heard of Paste magazine.

you were there? Loved that release as a college student, but I'm really glad they have the system they have in place now.

Am I the only one swimming in this susspool who wants a TalkBeer homebrew blind tasting?

everybody can be a judge. one man shall be declared Exalted Liver, and be in the know of who's is what. Then reveal once votes are in. enh? enh?

One of my favorite times hanging out with Kevin, the other being our trip to JO's. I feel like he was slightly cooler back then. He also used to randomly ask my if I wanted in on random cases that were split up at Buddys. Good time Kevin.

Sure was. Only knew a handful of you guys back then though. And now that I live in another state, I'd love for them to go back to the way things were ...might still be able to get the BRC stuff way... :(

Hey Pittsburgh beer fans - Helltown's Purgatory double IPA is delicious! I'm sure that's something we'll all easily come to a consensus on, right? 'Cause we're all just fans of craft beer in Pittsburgh, otherwise we wouldn't belong to a Pittsburgh group on talkbeer.com, right? 'Cause otherwise what's the ******' point?
