^2nd that on the saison. Tart and straw-y.

Also, that red poppy from lost abbey is on the shelf @ GEMDRFL or whatever its become at this point.
Not sure if people around here get their balls tight for it or not, but figured I'd mention it cuz I've yet to see it around here.

It's been there for a couple of weeks most lost abbey stuff will sit there for a couple of days bc if price point I guess. I know cuvée de tomme was on draft for a couple of days and at 12.99 I think for a 32oz growler not sure how that lasted as long as it did.

The Brett IPA at Insurrection is pretty awesome. Overripe Melon and sweaty Pineapple. Had the Nelson double Ipa which was good but I feel like Nelson has to have some other hop backing it like Amarillo or something to really get the best out of it. The Ipa's are great there but what people aren't talking about is his barrel aged stuff that should probably be out this summer. The guy knows saisons/wild ales/mixed fermentation really well. We are going to have some fun sub 300 bottle count wild ales soon enough.

Bane at Hitchhiker is really good, Andy has that water profile dialed in and finally has some hops to work with. That beer is straight up juice and will only get better. His saison has quietly been wrecking **** over there as well. I'd say the best clean saison in Pittsburgh.
I've used the "sweaty" descriptor to Steve and Dyana multiple times and they don't get it, which is surprising. And then my wife chimes in that my sweat does not smell good. Meh.

haha brett C is a complete pineapple sweat fest. My girlfriend just like saying wet dog cause she read that as a brett descriptor and thinks it's hilarious.

So this thread seems to be a catch all for awesome pgh stuff, so I figured I'll give a shout out to doughboys pizza in mckees rocks. Their Sicilian is amazing and I'm pissed I slept on this place for so long. My wife works over there occasionally and has raved about it forever. To keep it somewhat beer related, she said that a new brewery is building out a spot in an old movie theater there but it's in a real sketchy spot.

This is exactly what I picture the dude inside the dark little room to look like:

My homer answer would be Don Caballero, maybe? But Battles might actually be the more appropriate incarnation from that family tree to go with.

Maybe Storm and Stress?

Anyone hitting Beers of the Burgh this Saturday? They just announced that they're changing the location to Arsenal Terminal Building at 3901 Butler St., which makes me very much happiness.

Has anyone else noticed a drop in quality offerings at GEMDH20? It seems like every time I go in there, the tap list is worse than the previous. They had two watermelon beers on, both disgusting. I think the end cap of "seasonal bombers" has been the same bottles for a few months now. Are they hiding all the interesting stuff in back? What gives?

Still a better name than Couch.
That name evokes an episode of Three's Company for me, in which Mr. Roper decides to brew beer for the Regal Beagle. Throughout the episode, he's sitting on the couch, stirring a quart sauce pan on a boiler plate that's sitting on the coffee table. That's my mental picture of "couch brewing".

Part of me feels like it's supposedly to be an ironically stupid name... But, I fear that they felt like it evoked some sort of homey vibe. Like, we're just some dudes from the couch who decided to make beer.

I find something oddly charming about a name so defiantly boring & mundane, like bands named Porches, Spoon, Real Estate...

They recently got a new beer buyer, still learning the ropes I would guess. But every time I'm in (which is quite regularly) there's always at least one or two enjoyable beers on draft.

troygreer was wrong - there are THREE watermelon beers on at GEMDH2O! Still, though, there's plenty of good stuff on here to pick from. I've been wanting to give that Church DIPA a try.

EDIT: 3 out of 18 = 17%

There are only 4 beers worth drinking. 2 hearted, space cake, rye rebellion, and pine drops. Who orders Shiner draft. I'd drop a beer from my set belonging to wholesaler of shiner for even asking me if I wanted shiner on draft.

Would not order: Woodchuck, Purple Haze, Shandy, or the 21A or NB watermelons
Would be very interested in: Funky Jewbelation, Rye Rebellion, Church, Watermelon Dorado (I'm actually pretty intrigued a watermelon DIPA)
Would happily get: Duck Rabbit, Breakfast Stout, Pine Drops, Kentucky Race Day, Space Cake, 2 Hearted
Would settle for: The Konas, Shiner

AND LET THE RECORD SHOW--
RFL's take on Founders Breakfast Stout: 2/10, would not drink.

Tried the NB Watermelon (awful), Watermelon Dorado (hops were in a huge fight with the fake watermelon taste, not good) and Space Cake (haven't had this in some time, didn't like very much).

Duck Rabbit wasn't on tap and I know there was probably 2 or so other different beers. But all I would buy from that current list is a growler of Two Hearted. I'd like to try the Church Extreme IPA.
