I know this can be annoying, but I'll be in Pittsburgh for the early morning/afternoon on May 11. Was wondering what I should do for sure/places to stop.

Thus far I have:

1) Primanti Bros (tourist trapp'n)
2) The Church Brew Works.

Any definite stops I should make?

Thanks and <3

So does that answer your question?

You can also check out Lawrenceville/Millvale and hit 4 breweries pretty easily. Roundabout => Hop Farm => Draai Laag => Grist House. I've also heard good things about The Abbey on Butler Street.

I might be in that area later tonight if anyone wants to meet for a beer. Anyone but shuggy. Just kidding

Maynard, more like Gaynerd.

Also, anyone have any idea why half the Shorts sixers at GEMDShady are like $4.67 each? I was tempted to buy them out of principal but I find their stuff unpalatable. It's as if Space Rock is Lateralus and I'm Pitchfork.

If it's the same thing they do with baby bottles, they swab the outside to test for known bomb chemicals and then they run it through a machine that I'm guessing is a spectrometer to test the SRMs and haziness.

Ha. Tried to get a hoof hearted can through they said it broke the machine

I'll be at Voodoo in Meadville the night before, so that's on the list. Forgot about Fat Heads and if Brew Gentlemen is open definitely stopping.

Meadville huh

Just saw that Fury Brewing (a.k.a. Ryan Slicker & crew, if that name does anything for you) got their permits in line to start building out their location, which, it appears, is in North Huntingdon.

That's gutsy, going head-to-head with Couch!!! Fury's going to need to have a bunch of social media gophers ready to hype their own product on Untappd if they want to "unseat" Couch.

Edit: Don't know Ryan, but if you do: can you suggest that they make a Sofa King IPA?

Couch is setting up in the Larimer area

Is there seriously never going to be a brewery between the North Side and Zelienople? I can't imagine that this can continue much longer...can it? There are more than just two compass directions to utilize here, folks...

The North Hills is square though. Nothing cool or up and coming about it and real estate is expensive.

At some point though, I would hope a startup with decent capital would look at this massive expanse of brewery-less space and decide "holy ****, I can kill it here....instead of going South or East where competition is literally everywhere."

EDIT: maybe not though...I'm beginning to think that the per capita needed to sustain a large amount of breweries is smaller than I originally thought....

Nah, you just WANT that to happen. ;)

And would it really do anything for you if the beer sucked? I mean (and this is not me trying to single them out) it seems like the only start up in the area who began with a decent amount of money was Spoonwood, and the opinion of their beer seems to be very low.

Shiny, purdy building though.

There's Aurochs.

And Eleventh Hour had originally planned to set up shop in Wexford, but then...didn't. To quote their founder & head brewer on their decision not to set up shop there: "Never will Eleventh Hour lower itself to the deplorable standards of the subhuman pig men who populate the circle of Hell know as the North Hills. If you want my advice, the optimal course of action would be to quarantine the area & sterilize its residents. May God have mercy on your souls." * End quote.

* This part isn't really true at all.

I don't think anyone would consider Emsworth to be the North Hills. I definitely wouldn't. Also, gluten-free and such.

But no start up brewery will ever be able to afford to set up shop in Wexford, McCandless, etc. Bellevue/West View, maybe.
