Aerated through a strainer last night and had huge foamy bubbles. I decided to clean up a little and lost track of time and about 20 minutes went by until I got to pitching the yeast. The big bubbles were gone and there was a thin foam on the top of the wort kinda like when a head recesses after 5 minutes of a pour. Does aeration hold that long?

I see a little krausen but I am scared that it is only from me toping off gently with bottled water to hit my volume (which I did shortly after pitching the yeast after I read my hydro and overshot my OG). That might have aerated it a little but not as much as I should have.

Thanks!

When the water is oxygenated, it would take several hours for the oxygen molecules to escape. Even though bubbles float to the top, oxygen molecules are permanently trapped in the water. Think about fish in the ocean, their gills extract oxygen from the water even when they are 100s of meters down.
