Indeed!!! :mug:If I had editing software that I could add the pipe and tobacco to a picture I could find online I would be all over it

Here you go, buddy:

<a href="https://imgflip.com/i/pesb6"><img src="https://i.imgflip.com/pesb6.jpg" title="made at imgflip.com"/></a>

I'll see if I can't work on a proper image edit later, now that we have this, at least.

I agree, Carter Hall is a decent OTC pipe tobacco that is basic and offers nothing impressive other than a decent basic smoke that doesn't "bite" badly.

Bite. That is the key quality of a decent smoke and one that is poor and undesirable. A good pipe smoke should never bite.

Really good smokes have flavors that are rich and interesting and that develop in the bowl while you smoke them. They can be either mild or strong in their nicotine punch, but that is something totally separate from their "bite". Uneducated pipe smokers often confuse "bite" with the strength of the tobacco. This is wrong. Good tobacco does not bite at all. It may be very strong, or very mild. The "bite" has nothing to do with this. "Bite" is the burning acidic effect that drawing the pipe has in your mouth. It hurts. It feels like you are burning holes into your tongue. Good tobacco will not do this to you. Good tobacco will only leave you with flavor, smoke, and aroma that is appropriate for that type of tobacco. Tongue burn, feelings of pain, and any unpleasant experience is the result of inferior poor quality tobacco.

Tobacco smoking via a tobacco pipe is one of the only ways that anyone can truly enjoy tobacco smoking without threat of destroying their health. If done responsibly, you can know and learn the qualities of fine tobacco. Something that cigarette smoking will never reveal. Cigarette smoking is irresponsible and arcane. It's like sucking up mud into your lungs. Common sense tells you this is dumb. Why do it? Pipe smokers never inhale the smoke. There is a reason why pipe smokers don't do this. Mostly, because it's dumb. More importantly, you can't taste the quality of the tobacco once you do inhale it.

Cigarettes are meant to be inhaled deeply. Tobacco pipes are meant to be tasted. Never inhaled. It is little wonder that pipe smokers live for so long when compared to cigarette smokers.

If you want to appreciate tobacco for what tobacco can be, smoke a pipe. Pipe smokers only smoke the best tobaccos. If you want to choke on smoke and die early, take up cigarettes. Cigarettes encourage deep breathing the smoke and they mix other chemicals into the tobacco to make it more "desirable". It's not pure tobacco anymore.

That was A great post!!
Thank you for taking the time. I look forward to more of your thoughts.

Cheers!

Dan

Evening brewin' pipe smokers!

Enjoying this smoke after this long Monday. Sitting out here on the porch tonight, listening to good music, relaxing to the gentle breeze, and smoking an easy smoke. Smoking P&Cs Russ's Blend Ice Cream Sundae in my Savinelli La Pipa (2013?) billiard.

Nice pipe!

Will have to round up some more pics of my pipes, this is the only one I could find. Smoking a nice local Christmas Blend.

My grandfather passed away recently, and when my mom was going through his things, she found a pipe. She doesn't ever remember him smoking a pipe, so it is most likely my great-grandfather's, likely over 100 yrs old. It needs a new stem and a bit of cleaning, but its pretty unique I think. She let me have it. Any tips on where to track down a new stem? I called the one local tobacco place, they only sell stems for Vauen pipes. This one has a smaller tenon than my others, measures about 5.5mm but fits very loosely in the mortise. I'm assuming it should be a standard 6mm tenon, but won't know for sure until I can find a stem to try out. The stem is real wood, but it has a fair bit of warp/twist to it.

I was checking that site our earlier, and they have lots of stems listed, but they are all straight. Am I supposed to bend it myself?

Some Mississippi River in my Stanwell Harlekin to bring some peace to a crazy day. The pipe is goofy looking but is light and clenches well. It's turning into a sweet smoker too. With the small bowl it's perfect for a quick smoke break.

Mmmm mississippi river. That's an insane looking pipe! Very interesting.

I realized it had been months since I had any. What I have right now is over a year old and is smoking incredibly well. The pipe is a Stanwell Harlekin I got duped into buying as a special from Pipes and Cigars. Not a big fan of the looks but it smokes well. The bowl screws on and off and replacements can be bought, I just never got around to doing that.

I have some sutliff taste of summer (peaches and cream) that I have taken one bowl of and didn't care for. I'm not a fan of the fruity stuff. If someone wants this you can just pay shipping and it's yours. I imagine $3 ought to ship it just about anywhere in the states. I think I got this tin for about $9+shipping so just let me know if you want it.

Passing time on a slow day working with a flake of Solani Aged Burley that was gifted to me by a friend on Botl.org. This is a very, very, very tasty tobacco. I understand as far as pipe tobacco is concerned this one is spendy, but compared to some of the cigars I smoke it will be in my best interest to keep some of this on hand always.

I sent this out in the mail today to Walker's Pipe Repair, in Ann Arbor, MI to get a new stem and get the rest of it cleaned up. Looks like he's running about a 2 month lead time right now, I'll post pics when I get it back.

I truly look forward to seeing the new pipe stem and the fixings. Two months? Not too bad, especially for a century old pipe. As we all know... pipe smoking is a lesson in patience. :mug::pipe:.

Just got myself a 100g tin of Solani Silver Flake in the mail. This is hands down my new favorite baccy.

Smoking a half bowl "taster" in my bjarn viking and its simply perfect. Never had a tobacco burn this evenly and easily right out of the tin. I also never thought 100g might not be enough before hehe :)

Had a long day at work yesterday and was completely looking forward to this. Smoking some university flake in my peterson 2014 SPD canadian. Drinking my belgian wit along with it. Went along nicely together. The bowl lasted a while, too bad teh beer didn't (I made the mistake of only putting one bottle in the fridge.)
