I haven't gotten far enough to adjusting water conditions yet. Anyone in Phoenix care to share how they filter and what adjustments they make to the water?

I've been using bottled water but curious if the tap water would be better.

Thanks

Can't talk specifically for Phoenix, but here in Mesa the water tastes like **** which means the beer will taste like crap too. Personally I build my own water from distilled. Before I decided to learn to build my own water I brewed with grocery store spring water.

I live here in Phoenix as well, Ive been using grocery store spring water. ...Did you notice a difference when you started building your own water?

whats the scoop with the water vending machines, Ive got some 5gal containers to use, but dont know if the water out of those is good or not..

The main things that I noticed was that my darker beers tasted a lot better and that my efficiency was a lot more consistent.

From what u read there are a lot of people using the water vending machines. Personally I prefer jugs since I buy more than 5 gallons but less than 10.

I'm in Glendale. I've been using spring water from the store as well. I actually called the water co and found out the mineral content of my tap water and what processing plant it comes from. Haven't tried a batch yet with tap but I was also interested in possibly setting up a filter system under the sink.

did you compare the mineral contents of the Glendale tap water to other popular water profiles? I was skeptical on using the vending machine water, not knowing if it was chlorinated or not. but I think now I might give it a try...sure is cheaper than buying 2.5 gal jugs at $2.50 a pop. Im paying as much for my water and ice as I am for my Grain.

hope we havnt hijacked this thread to badly...Im in the same position as guysinaz5000, just looking for the most affordable best tasting option.

Used to live in Gilbert and the water was horrible for brewing, even filtered. Darker beers fared a little better but in general, the water sucks and is barely fit for human use. Just go to a water-n-ice store and buy RO and do a mild build up, cheap and easy.

I now live in Payson and the water here is MUCH better (I get bi-annual ward lab tests done), just a run through a charcoal filter, add 3-5 grams of CaSO4, 3-5 grams of CaCl2 and 1-2 grams of MgSO4 per 5 gallon recipe to the mash (all depending on recipe mash ph requirements) and great beer will come forth.

Don't use the water in, or near the valley, way to much chlorine in it. The amount of sodium is near perfect in Maricopa but everything else kills it.
