Phallic symbol

Recently spent some times over seas found that the trailer hitches commonly found on cars seem to be somewhat of a phallic symbol.

If I had one of these on my ride I would rock a set of steel balls under them like such.

Now the shape of the hitch while different I guess is ok but how does that hook to the frame of the car.
