Hi folks. I'm looking to get a ph meter and I'm wondering if these Hanna Instruments beer ph testers are good. They're $30 in amazon right now.

keeping this in my threads as well... on a limited budget and those are within a pricepoint i could afford.

Sooooo.... What would be a good brand to look for?

How about someone with experience with one or more pH meters actually providing some feedback on pros/cons of specific models? Experience with the low cost Hanna models would be a plus. None of the replies (yet) to the OP provide any useful information for making a purchase decision.

Full disclosure: I recently purchased one of the low cost Hanna models, but haven't used it yet.

I use and like this one. I calibrate it fairly regularly and store the electrode in storage solution.

AJ is giving good advice. Particularly with Ph meters, you get what you pay for. I DO like the value I got on mine, even if I paid a little more for it then it's currently listed at.

Thanks guys. I'm not looking to heap out at all. I just didn't know which type to look at. There's no sense paying $200 for one if I only need one that's under a hundred.

For whatever it's worth, I personally use the Omega PHH-7011, and have *loved* it. Comes with a case, storage solution, calibrating solutions. Has a replaceable electrode, and is precise to .01. Calibration is super quick, the unit is waterproof... just can't recommend it enough.

It does cost $99, but it's well worth it in my book.

I've owned 2 of those Hanna Checker units. They are better than nothing, but they don't last too long. Since I moved to a Milwaukee MW-101, I haven't been sorry for the upgrade. The MW is a notably more accurate, stable, and long-lived unit compared to the Hanna. It is slightly more than double the price, so it may still be a better value.

Googling the Omega PHH-7011, I stumbled across this forum on HBT: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/revised-buying-guide-ph-meter-based-book-water-446437/

Appears to have a lot of the advice many of us are looking for.

Thanks. I'll read through both links and check out the models that are mentioned here.
