Hey, Kegland! Start making the caps on your regular disconnects long instead of round. Then people could get leverage to open them without tools that gouge them up.

You're welcome. Send me a check.

I think this is a fair point. It would not be difficult for us to make these like a wing nut shape so you have more to hold onto. The cap is quite small to grab onto.

Don't need to go all three-D, just make the round knob a moderately elongated oval...although that may challenge your machinery a bit...

Cheers!

It's not so much a question of finding the very best shape. The main thing is to get away from a really bad shape and size. You could make them elongated. You could make them bigger, like the ones on the flow control disconnects. You could even make them hex-shaped so wrenches would fit, but the thing that makes most sense is to make them easy to remove without tools.

Sometimes that gorilla is you. It's easy to overtighten these for fear of leaks, and if you leave one sitting around with beer or wort in it, you're gluing it on.

There is no reason at all to make these things round.
I just use a towel or clean rag to grip the top no tools needed. And tighten them with bare fingers
