We must be heading toward fall as I see a few questions about
pumpkin ale popping up!!

I am brewing the NB Smashing Pumpkin AB Kit this weekend and have
read some feedback that the 1 tsp of pumpkin spice added at the end
of the boil is a bit on the subtle side and could be a bit more pronounced.

If I wanted to amp it up a bit (creating the pie in a glass feel),
do you think I could accomplish this with an extra teaspoon of
Penzey's Pumpkin spice in the boil or would you suggest going the Libby's
pumpkin in a can method during my mash?

Any suggestions or advice on what and how much to use would
be much appreciated!!

I am using this beer as my wedding gift beer in October and want to
make the best beer I can.

Thank you to everyone who reads and replies!!

In my experience with pumpkin beers, the addition of FRESH pumpkin to the mash is key. It really helps the spices stick out and gives them backbone so they aren't so bright. You will have to boil the pumpkin to soften it up, them mash it like a potato, then add it to your mash. As for the extra spice, yes it will help. I'd do both, frankly, but experiment.

Cheers!
