This is my two year old cherry sour.
Getting ready to top off with a fermented wort and another pound of cherries. Been purging head space with Co2 monthly.
Wondering if it's a pellicle or mold?

Hard to tell if it’s fuzzy or powdery from the picture(those are characteristics of mold). Looks bit like yeast rafts but I haven’t see pure yeast rafts my self. Someone with more experience than myself should be able to help you out though.

thanks, to the right of the islands that is a skim coating, it looks more blurry then anything, my peach sour had a pellicle that had bubbles and the skim coat. the little islands got me worried.
thanks again cheers

That's 100% a pellicle.

Mold is not "powdery".
That’s true, My farmer brain was thinking of mildew for some reasons when describing. Guess that’s what happens after disinfecting the greenhouses for the past month lol

can i piggieback on this? i have the same question about my beer! added bootleg biology mtf funk island bugs on 10/27/19. it smells fantastic, but just want to make this isnt mold.

It's a pellicle. Looks like it's been disturbed a couple times.

I would recommend that you try to find a spot for these long-term sours and then avoid moving it until it's ready to package.

Cheers
