Pacific rim movie review

went in with low expectations, parts are predictable. but if you're looking for lots of explosions cool CGI not a bad movie. just don't look for a whole lot of meaning or a deep plot. . I recommend seeing it in 3d though

Here's the breakdown:

Extremely predictable movie. It's like they had a sale on movie cliches and Del Toro emptied the store.

That said, the CGI is FANTASTIC! The acting isn't terrible and it's an awesome action flick!

Charlie was pretty cool. He and his cohort were kind of cliche, but I love his manic style. He's an awesome actor IMO. My favorite from IASIP, so...

The basic premise is complete Bullshti, but I don't care. It was still a good time.

It's clearly not an Academy award winner, but it was fun. Where I'm vacation at the moment they have "4D" movies. They're IMAX 3D, with seats and that move and rumble and jets of water that spray and big wind turbines in the ceiling and walls to create drafts in connection with the action in the movie. I think this made it a little more fun and easier to overlook the shortcomings.

He's essentially playing the same character with the same exact mannerisms from Always Sunny, but just as a doctor/scientist. Frankly, not much range.

I saw the movie last weekend and it was okay. It's not going to win any awards. The story line is a bit weak, but the fights are mostly entertaining. I mean, come on, giant robots fighting alien monsters? It has the cliche love story as well. I found the music score to be irritatingly overdone. About 60 minutes in it became distracting to me. Still not a bad way to spend a boring afternoon.

Perhaps someone could explain why the robots waste the first 60 minutes of the movie trying to pummel the kaiju to death with their metal fists instead of using their swords or ranged weaponry? That seemed very odd to me.

Del Toro is a good director, and I think he did a good job at what he wanted to do. It's a summer movie. It's full of cliches, but the CGI is good and the action is badass. It's a mindless movie that could have been written by a 13 year old, but it was fun. I kinda liked it.

See, now you're just trying to make sense of the movie.

If you wanted the movie to make sense, why not ask why they couldn't just build a few powerful, penetrating bombs and kill them that way?

Uber-expensive complex robots instead of cheap off the shelf munitions? That would have been a 10 minute movie.

I can explain this:

Though DelToro denies it, this follows classic mecha-anime climax escalation. The really cool mecha-weapons are not unveiled until nearing the climax of the storyline. Everything is very cliche and action packed. A japanese mecha come to live action, I loved it!

True! I was probably over-analyzing as the movie dragged on. Still very enjoyable, not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

I haven't seen it, only previews and I doubt a vast group of people here have seen Evangelion (Anime)

But let me give you a quick break down of it..

Angels (yes, angels but they are hulking monsters, not what one would think of as angels) come to earth to kill humanity, giant robots call Avas piloted by humans fight the angels to save humans..

Sounds like the previews I seen of Pacific Rim (substitute monsters for angels)


I'm still going to see it, I don't expect a great story or good acting.. just mindless fun.

This reminds me of a few guys I work with. They will analyze the ever living **** out of a movie and spend at least three times the length of the movie picking it apart, then roll their eyes at me when I tell them I thought it was pretty good. For me, it's entertainment and the deciding factor is whether or not I thought it was worth the $8 to see it in the theater or if I should have waited for redbox. But if critiquing movies is your thing, then more power to you, brotha.
