So I made the Blood Orange Belgian Wit recipe from this site on 5/31 and bottled in on 6/14. I know I used too much priming sugar, by a lot. Used 5 oz but due to lots of floating fruit and other junk only got 41 12 oz bottles.

So I opened one today, and I know that it was really early by a long shot but I couldn't resist. Bottle had a slow foam coming out the top when open and excessive head in the glass.

I know that it will be overcarbed but is this excessive foam due to too much priming sugar or because of how little time in the bottle it had?

Relax. it's too early. Give them another week, then put one in the fridge for 48 hours before opening it.

Get back to us in another week or two. (And make sure to chill the bottle for 48 hours before you open it.)

most likely its because of it not being ready. i always test early, not worried about saving it for when it tastes better, because, i have a nice pipeline going so really, i dont need the extra beers for when they are "good". i like to experiment. this way, until i get it all down packed, i know what to look for in a young beer, ect. i bet a few more weeks and your beer will be fine.

Thanks. I assumed that it was due to how early I tried it. Tried to find a thread about gushing when opening early but could find one..,

If you had opened it when it was ready, you wouldn't have seen it and you wouldn't have worried...and you wouldn't have wasted a beer....

Watch this video and you'll understand why in gushed.

There's a ton of threads on this, just about every gusher thread on here is because they opened the bottle too early.

3 bottles ended up exploding. Think fermentation stalled maybe and when I racked and bottled I kicked it off again...all in the fridge now.
