I started reading webcomics around 1998 with Penny Arcade and Sluggy Freelance.

I read WAAAAAY too many webcomics now. Here's the list of comics I check in on daily. If I miss a couple days catching up is rough:

If I were to give high recommendations to certain comics in my huge list:

For complete ridiculousness that is still hilarious without a continuous story:
Buttersafe (short for "Buttersafe than sorry"... yup, it's that awesome) and Chainsaw Suit

For excellent art, semi-continuous stories, but still charmingly ridiculous:
Commissioned. Focuses around a D&D group... but there's so so much more to it.

For good art, unbelievably intricate and interwoven story, and fantastic writing:
Sluggy Freelance (again, beware.... it takes some effort and you have to start from the beginning)

For intelligent, funny, science-y goodness:
XKCD, Comic JK, and Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (SMBC is amazing... really)

For geeky hilarity that isn't the same recycled geek comic crap over and over:
Fan-Boys (good lord, so funny... but just left their horrible server and are under construction. But seriously, keep this one on your radar for when it comes back. Then go back into the archives and read all the goodness

Hijinks Ensure. Some of the best, over-the-top style comedic writing I've seen. And amazing references to all that is geek.

For mostly hilarious but often thought-provoking, well-drawn, and well-written comics that falls into every category:
Sinfest. Do it

I write an on again, off again D&D webcomic (Loaded Dice). Currently, we're off again, due to me being unemployed... but I'm a week and a half into a nw job, so we'll be back shortly.

If you're a D&D/RPG nerd, you may enjoy it. Beware that I had had multiple artists. :)

Loaded Dice #1

My own favorties?

XKCD
Penny Arcade
Order of the Stick
Questionable Content
Sinfest
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal
Doctor McNinja

You know what I miss from the old days of webcomics?

Clan B.O.B. Anybody read it before they stopped? It went for a while.

OK I'll show my age, Tank McManara. This has to be one of the best spoofs on pro sports. If you can read some of the older strips, 70's and 80's. Farside, but you have to have a warped look at humor.

Yeah I've read those too, but I'm only 26 :D

But this is webcomics. I'm not saying you are, but some people try to compare comic strips to webcomics. And that simply isn't fair for two reasons:

1) Farside and Calvin & Hobbes are the two greatest comics ever made. Period. No point in comparing webcomics to them

2) After that, 99% of webcomics are infinitely better than the comics in the misnamed "Funny Pages." I'm looking at you, Family Circus....
