Yeah, nobody wants attitude from a brew shop. Despite the lack of competition here in Finland, the guy at my LHBS is amazingly knowledgeable, helpful and doesn't try to push extra stuff on me just for the hell of it. I tell him, for example, which style of beer I want to make, how I want it to taste, what ABV I want, etc. He will tell me what I need to buy to make it the way he would do it, but doesn't care at all if I change his recommendations for something cheaper or just different. I like him.

But every shop you buy it from does.

I wonder about this too. Let's hope they have a better system figured out for their bulk ordering, and not just an ice pack or two thrown in.

I'm pretty sure that if my LHBS orders yeast via mail and the yeast comes with dry ice that completely melted away or ice packs that thawed out and the yeast was warm, then they'd send the entire shipment back.

My LHBS gets white labs yeast shipped over night in an insulated box with plenty of ice packs. I believe white labs will only ship yeast out this way. I haven't asked about Wyeast or seen the package arrive since he orders white labs more often. Once he gets it in he puts it immediately in a dedicated fridge and makes sure to rotate the stock. When it comes to yeast only my LHBS will do.

I wish I had a LHBS.

I don't.

I order everything, and will likely start buying bulk grains soon.

I likely save money anyways, but if I forget something there is no quick easy fix.

Nearest LHBS is 30 miles away, and their prices are more than double what I can find online, for nearly all ingredients, equipment, everything. I only go there when I need emergency items, such as yeast, or replace a broken hydrometer last minute sort of thing.

Living in Milwaukee we are lucky to have a Northern a Brewer retail store here that is competitive with most online retailers and has great staff. I popped in another LHBS while I was traveling in Chicago and was very disappointed compared to NB.

LHBS is good, and friendly people if not the most knowledgeable. Took me a short while to figure out that their kits aren't to my liking. The problem is that their hours are bad. I really enjoy the convenience of online ordering, but for some things only LHBS will do. Like, when I'm short a couple ingredients, or if I need fresh yeast.

Oh a twist of events, I have a LHBS opening today about 15 minutes from me! They seem to have the social media side covered, so maybe their a bit more customer oriented. :ban::ban::ban:
