Chose turkey/chicken out of the simple fact that you can't screw up cooking a turkey/chicken without being somewhat mentally incapacitated, but I'm partial to any of the following:

-Antelope
-Venison
-Duck
-Kangaroo (especially nice as a jerky)
-Crocodile (see above)
-And yes, even rattlesnake

I have an issue.. I love Sushi, fresh fish is like nothing else in my book. Yet I love (and make) a really good tri tip, and then I start thinking about Menudo, which is made from pork parts... AH so maybe I can live in a reality were just those 3 exist? lol I couldn't give up Pork Ribs, bacon, tri tip, rib eye, chicken wings, menudo, sushi, shark steak, swordfish, Cornish Game Hen, Hamburgers, leg-rack-roast lamb, elk, venison, boar, rabbit, sausage rolls, italian spicy ragu, shell fish (cockles, mussels, clams, lobster, crabs) wow to many meats I enjoy.

In the end I chose Beef purely because of Hamburgers, Tri Tip, Ragu, Roast Beef, Roasts, and Beef Jerky.

You've obviously never eaten at my in-laws place... My mother in-law is a very intelligent lady, but damn that turkey is dry as hell. I've been honing my bird smoking skills to take over turkey cooking duties for this year. Only trick is that I need to make it sound like I just want to help out rather than I think her turkey sucks.

Pork, Anthony Bourdain was right; "The pig is a noble animal"

Apart from the fact that I love it anyway, if there was going to be a ONE meat forever and always, it would make sense to be pork since it has the greatest variation in flavor and texture. Ham (can be cured MANY different ways), bacon, pork loin, chops, sausages, ground, etc.

Brine the bird for 24 hours first and it will change her life. :cross:

I love me some good steak, but I don't think I can live with beef and only beef for the rest of my life.

I agree. Poultry is a lot more versatile than other meats. The novelty of eating pork every day would eventually wear off. It might take three or four years, but eventually. Chicken's boring by itself, but you can basically do anything with it except make a steak or bacon.
Pork is just as versatile.

Had to go with pork. I was thinking about bacon, ham, pork chops, sausage, canitas, etc. Can't go wrong with pig!
Thanks. Now I know what I'm gonna have for lunch. :mug:

*edit*
geez, I didn't realize how old this thread was. I'm still having carnitas for lunch though.

I think no matter what I pick it would only be a matter of time before I absolutly hated eating it if it were all I could eat.

So I went with chicken/turkey because it should be healthier (that always seems to change as to what is best) and there are 2 slightly different tastes there. Not a big fish fan.

Question: Do I get to eat eggs as a bonus?

I didn't read all o these posts but no ones mind was on the gutter like mine huh. Aside from Eating that. I'd say deer. I can make deer taste about 20 different ways

Personally, I'm with the Jimmy Buffet camp on this one. "Gimmie oysters and beer, for dinner every day of the year and I'll be fine." However, as much as I dig shellfish, a grilled ribeye, pink in the middle and charred around the edges, kills all else...

I almost picked venison as well -it is one of my favorite meats where flavor is concerned -but beef won out because it is more versatile than venison (venison is so lean that it doesn't bind well to make burgers, for instance, unless you add fat to it -but then its not really just venison anymore) -my dad makes sausage with it, I have my kills processed into cube steaks, ground meat, and I keep the back strap for things like jerky or thinly sliced and fried -the loin meat is great when cooked on a grill as you would do flank steak (though make it less time per side owing to the smaller/thinner size). This last hunting season wasn't kind to me :(

I voted for wild game, technically couldn't that be anything I hunt and kill myself?

Buffalo for the beef, venison because its damn delicious, pheasant and duck are poultry

BEEF????Seriously?

Steak is all they got.

Pork tacos are better than beef, pork burgers are better.

I pity the beefers here.

(I voted shellfish;))

I am the OP of this thread, this was simply a stupid question I thought up after having a few too many homebrews at my inlaws and as such nothing in this thread has any real bearing in reality, but I only grouped together different animals because the poll has a max of 7 (I think) entries. That beeing said if you pick wild game for the poll that doesn't mean anything you can hunt. "One meat forever" is one meat, one animal. Same for other catagories, chicken/turkey is chicken or turkey, fish is one fish, salmon is not the same animal as tuna, for shellfish crab is not the same as lobster and so forth....

Food for thought.

No reason to feel sorry for those of us who enjoy a good semi-bloody beef steak. There is a good reason that beef in one of the best sellers of any of the meats.
I like my beef smoked, barbequed, fried, in a stew, ground and fried, made in to meatballs for my spaghetti, put in my Lasagna or on a Pizza or in a Taco. I like my steak with a good porter or nut-brown ale, or even a lawnmower ale if thats what I have available. Smoked BEEF Ribs? They take a bit more work than pork ribs, but in the end, they are every bit as finger-licking good as their excellent pork counterpart. Can't have a cheese steak sandwich without it. Corned beef hash? Oh yeah, don't get me started!
Just steak? Only if you're of limited imagination. :D

A good reply sir, however you speak your own demise!

Beef ribs, although they take more time and trouble can be as good as pork ribs!!

Kidding, Beef can be great, but I liken the "best Selling" Beef to the Best selling "light american lager" or the best selling flavorless tobacco cigarettes.

People lack imagination.(not you, but the hordes of mindless beef and potatoes, marlboro smoking, bud swilling zombies)

And....whilst my heart said "SHELLFISH", for a day in and day out meat, PORK has to be it.

My shameless copycat poll poses a far more disturbing question raised by this poll!!!!

Hi

Turtle.

Turtle has different meat flavors depending on what part you use.

Sorry gila, An old leather shoe marinated in pig snot would be good with fresh basil, let's get serious here, OK?

And I don't believe the FSM actually exists.

Just wound it and put it on the plate.
<pushes his hat back and whistles to waitress> ... "ay, honey, why'ncha bring me a band-aid an I think we kin save this steer".

*to waiter/waitress
"I want you to bring the animal into the kitchen, hold it's head in front of the oven just long enough to put the fear of fire in it's eyes and then bring it to me."

..and now you clarify? I want to change my vote!!

Well said, Cheezy. Well said! I DO love shellfish as wel -in fact, I'll eat pretty much anything that can't outrun me (or outsmart me when I'm hunting). Before my heart got trashed, I was too impatient to fish -I went after them by SCUBA diving and shooting them (grin). Cardiologist won't even talk to me about the possibility of diving again.
-Zamial mentioned turtle. When I was young, we used to catch and eat turtles -but these days we keep 'em as pets and SWMBO would probably shoot me if I suggested putting 'em on the menu. I'll still take a rabbit if I see one.

Man after my own heart!
If it lived, its on the menu (or has been). Hmm. If its ALIVE, it MAY STILL be on the menu.
