So, a friend of mine scored a nice little batch of homebrewing equipment at an auction. Since it was part of a larger lot that he was bidding on, he gave it to me. It included a couple gross of very old, but un-used bottle caps. These caps have a layer of cork inside the top, and then a foil circle over the cork. They haven't been used, and they seem to be in good condition. They're from the Old Style brewery in La Crosse, back when they actually made Old Style lager there. They have "Old Style Lager" graphics on the top of them.
So my question is this - how long do bottlecaps last before you just have to throw them away? I'd love to bottle some beer with these things, just for the historical value. Can I still use these things, or should I just donate them to a museum?
