been on for a while and have found you all to be greatly helpful. glad to have found this.

just bought my barley mill and first bag of bulk of bulk malt.

working on getting my mash effiencency above 75%.

favorites home brews are imperial stout, copper ale and am working on a four ingredient simple ale.

as a retired teacher this is one of several hobbies including fishing, wild mushrooms, gardening, and orchids.

has anybody read about the herbal beers book that is out?

I read the first few chapters. He's not really a brewer, so a lot of the brewing info sucks. But as a springboard for information about ingredients, and ideas, as well as info on beers in sacred settings, it's interesting. But few of the recipes in there, if any, have any resemblance to actual beers in the sense we use the word.

If you're new to brewing and looking for actual info of a technical or how to variety pass it by, but if you already know about sanitizers and how to spot bad brewing info, and want a good read give it a try.

thanks for the review, ive been brewing a while and am interested in some alternative recipe ingredients just for fun.

Welcome!

You might like a book called The Homebrewer's Garden if you haven't seen it already. It covers hops and lots of herbs, including guidelines on how to use specific herbs and some recipes. I've written a few things on my blog about brewing with herbs and gardening. Here's one article, and you can scroll through for others: http://www.singingboysbrewing.com/The-Blog.html?entry=winter-thoughts-turn-to-gardening

Last winter I brewed a Scandinavian-influenced beer with juniper berries http://www.singingboysbrewing.com/Wunjo.html Right now, I've got a tincture of basil and lavender, waiting for me to figure out how I want to use it.
