A couple weeks ago I put a new batch into an empty room to ferment. There's nothing else in that room besides 2 full fermenters. I went to check on it today and found this. I don't even know how many fruit flies are in there. But it's enough to turn the clear sanitizing solution yellow. If it were just a few flies I wouldn't worry about it, but that many can't be good...

Pop the lid and see how it looks.. I know fruit flies LOVE vinegar, so I'd be concerned about an infection. If it looks and smells normal, bottle it up... it appears the airlock did its job and kept them out.

Yeah, I'm going to open it up and bottle tomorow. The airlock seems to have done a good job, but it what I can't see that could be the problem. Wishing I had used vodka now but I was all out.

Did you use starsan? I left a bottling bucket with starsan out for a while(because I got lazy/drunk and didn't want to empty it and rinse it out) and found that it collected a few springtime moths that seem to like my apartment. I now put out a cup of starsan(diluted of course) every time I see them and they love to stop by for a drink and drown. works much better and less harmful than any pesticides I've tried.

The fermentation was done after a week when I first checked it, and the sanitizer was clear. I used Iodophor in it. The flies got in and the color changed somewhere between the end of week 1 and the end of week 3.
