Hey folks, just wanted to finally chime in on the forum, been a lurker for sometime now, have learned a lot that's for sure. I have been brewing for almost 2 years now, started just like most..Mr.Beer then to extract, now All-Grain. Have several bathes under my belt of all-grain and learning more everytime.

I do have a question....don't know if its relevant here on this section or not...but if anyone had "legal" access to a natural spring...would you use the water for brewing???

I'm thinking of maybe using that water for some brewing, what should I do before using it, boil water first before doing anything? Filter it? Etc.....Been using city water the whole time, and wanting to kick it up a notch with some uniqueness.

Thanks for any advice in advanced and look forward to chatting with everyone.

It all depends on the source of your spring water, and it's location. Some could be high in certain minerals or even super soft, and can vary with the seasons, even after periods of drought or heavy rain.

There's no need to preboil your spring water as it is boiled in your wort kettle, unless you need to remove (precipitate) excess calcium to suit the beer style. There are lots of water related threads and many, way more knowledgeable people on the brew science forum to give you advice on how to gauge your spring water, monitor quality and composition, and how to use it effectively.
 
Welcome to the group. You could send a sample of your spring water to Ward's labs, and find out what brewing related salts and minerals are in it.
