Hey everyone,

I just got done brewing a Houblonmonstre IPA from Northern Brewers, and this is the second batch in a row where my OG is way off from where it should be. Last time, I didn't think I aerated the wort well enough, but this time I aerated the wort really well but still came in well under.

The OG should have come in at 1.082 and it's reading 1.062. This is only my third batch, so I'm not too sure what's going on. Any other ideas why my OG is coming in so low?

Thanks!

Did you top off the wort with water to hit your target volume? If you did, sometimes the water and wort don mix enough and it throws off you SG reading.

I did. I topped it off with water to get to five gallons and shook the carboy vigorously for a couple of minutes. Does it make sense to take another reading in a couple of days to get a more accurate reading?

did you compensate for temperature when you took your reading, also, is this an extract kit or all grain?
