If my recipe shows that my OG should be 1.079, but my OG was 1.081, do I still need to try and hit the recipes FG of 1.010 or do I now shoot for a FG of 1.012?

Two points is not going to make or break your brew. Still aim for the fg of 1.010 but if it finishes at 1.012 then I wouldn't stress over it.

Did you also make sure your hydrometer/refractometer is correctly calibrated? 2 gravity points is close enough to say it could be a temp or cal difference...but again don't stress

Make sure you corrected for temperature. 2 points is nothing don't worry about it. And don't worry if you don't make it to 1.010. You may not make it if your wort is not fermentable enough.

Ok, thanks. Yeah I adjusted for temp. It came out at 1.080 @ 70 degrees F, so that makes it 1.081 if I'm correct.
