Am I being trolled?

I get that kind of result allllll the time. The right beer shows up for half a second, disappears and then populates with a completely unrelated list before I can click, and the right beer isn't in that list.
^^ Yeah, that. I typed in "cellarman" and didn't hit search (auto search), and that was what happened. BUT! After I typed a space after "cellarman" to get the specific batch, a relevant auto search result came up.

Distributed systems are hard. I'm almost certain that as you type, one of the autocomplete requests for the partial name is getting delayed and the results are getting to your phone after the results for the full word. When you pause, scratch your head, then add a space, a new request and response happen with the full name. It's probably possible for Untappd to create a solution for this, but it's much harder to get this stuff right than you'd imagine.

When managing a brewery page, is there a way to remove checkins for beers that aren't yours? I have a couple generic sounding beers listed (table beer, biere de miel) that get incorrect check ins sometimes

I don't believe there's any way for you to do it yourself, but you can put in a request in the support area and a super user will hopefully take care of it. I dunno exactly where it should go, but here's a good guess: http://help.untappd.com/discussions/problems-with-untappd-brewery-accounts-claiming

Haven't been using Untapp'd for too long so I apologize if this is an obvious question, but do check-ins ever get changed due to suspicion of an incorrectly selected beer or the creation of a beer that is already in the system? I ask because I had checked in the new Hanssens Schaerbeekse Krieken the other day, which later got updated/changed to the old Scarenbecca Kriek (which is not the same beer).

It is the same beer.

Nevermind then. The different label, mixed with the carbonation, and the description of using the handpicked cherries made me think it was something different. If nothing else, this is probably one of those times where a vintage year would be helpful since it is so different from the past still batches.

You can just make a 2015 version, anyone can do that.

Unless they revoke your beer-making privileges... We had a small barrel and would make a solera coovie every time we drank sours and named it the Beer Jerks Coovie 1, 2, 3, etc. They removed my privileges for creating each new coovie and deleted them all despite being listed as a homebrew. I explained it to Greg and he wasn't about my story and said I still can't do it. So now we don't make those beers anymore and I had my privileges reinstated on a "probationary" basis.

But the ****** up thing is now, every time I check in a beer from this one brewery and log in at the brewery, they delete all my beers I had checked in at that location. Then I have to email them, bitch about it, they say they didn't delete anything but I told him they did, etc etc etc, happened for at least 6 months. So now, I apparently have a custom code just for my account to log all events on my account on four servers, according to Greg that is.

I personally think removing privileges for that is a bit chicken-****, (and I'm far too lazy to do it) but the rules are pretty clear about it...

The thing about deleting check-ins is bizarre because it's not supposed to be possible. Even when a beer is deleted the check-ins are supposed to remain (I've looked into this, even people who make "water" and have it deleted still have the check-in visible on their profile). That must be some kind of crazy bug.

It's definitely a bug but he assures me there are no bugs in his software and claims it must be an error in my submission aka coming from my phone to cell tower to internet or my phone to wifi to internet. But that's ******** because it only happens at this one brewery and only when I check in there at their location (but not when I check in somewhere else despite being at their location or not even checking in a location at all). The only way I noticed it was I kept getting recommendations for beers I already had there and was like "wtf, I had these last week" or something. So I started to keep tabs of what I checked in there and how I did it and found it's only when I check in at their location does the **** get deleted. He tells me it shouldn't get deleted and says that the action logs for my account say I never checked in those beers but I did... all 6 to 8 of them.

Does anyone know how long your phone app keeps you logged in before it makes you put your password back in? My buddy just got divorced and is logged in on his ex's phone. She has been using it to check in/stalk. He is too passive to do anything about it except finally change his password after we wouldn't let up on it. I can't remember the last time my app asked me to out in my password. Computer does it all the time.

Wut

IIRC there's a way to de-associate a phone from the app, though I thought that things got weird really fast when two phones were associated with the same account. I would guess that changing the PW would log her out, but if it didn't you should tell him to post in the help forum. If he doesn't want, well, you can lead a horse to water...

Ok, so hopefully changing the password worked. He just has no way to know for sure.

Thanks.

Why in the world would things get weird if two devices were associated with the same account? I have both a phone and a tablet logged in to my account and I've never seen any issues (although I use the phone much more than the tablet).

But, I'd agree, for most sites, a password change forces a logout on all devices.

Actually now that I think about it the issue was trying to use two accounts on one device. It's also possible that they fixed whatever the issue was, I remember this happening years ago. That's the problem with being only sort-of informed for so long, stuff gets mixed up in my mind.

For a lot of sites (Facebook, Google, Evernote etc) you can log on to them on a computer and see all the devices you're logged into from there. A lot of times they let you log out remotely. I've used this before with Facebook and Evernote.

What is the proper Untappd protocol when a brewery has stated that the next batch of their standard pale ale will be completely revamped using new hops and better techniques and that will be the recipe going forward?

Create a new check-in called "Pale Ale (2015-Present)" or something like that?

I'd say yes. That's what they did when Green Flash revamped the recipes for Hop Head Red/West Coast IPA

They have recently implemented a beer identification feature into the Android and iPhone apps. All you do is pour the beer directly on your phone with the app open. It will take some time to analyze it, the screen may flicker on and off and you may see smoke start to come out of your phone. This is perfectly normal, the app has to access the cloud to process the data and it may look like smoke to the untrained eye.
