Yesterday, at GrumpyOldTroll's beautiful apartment warming in Hoboken -- an amazing day. Full day of libations and good eats, with great company and conversation. Everyone brought bottles/growlers blind, and no one expected the turnout to really be like this! An absolute pleasure meeting and drinking with everyone: GrumpyOldTroll, Totoropanda, NYCBUCKEYE, Gene, cosmicevan, franch, Quackus, Speedwayjim, NYCBeer, and their significant others! On to the next one...

can we get some highlights?? how's E037 Brute holding up?
Here's my personal breakdown of the night from memory:

IPA's -- Double Citra and King Sue were just amazing. So much citrus fruit juice with minimal pith-bitterness. Both were just SO crisp and juicy.

Stouts/malted -- Buckley set the tone real early… with that maple syrup characteristic being unreal and puts fresh CBS to shame, IMO. BA Abraxas needs to be a candle. Just cinnamon bagel in a glass. Thanks for both, Steve! Newest batch of Chocolate Rain tasted great (compared to the garbage b2 bottle I opened in 2013), and CFH '14 didn't really "wow" me, but it was good. Leon b2 holding up great -- lots of caramel and sweet, dark fruit. MMM then just crushed it right after. A better bottle than recent ones for sure. Very minimal oxidation, and sips like a dulce de leche nectar.

AWA's -- DDG b2 is really improving. Smelled like an authentic geuze and drank with a nice tartness. Brute E!037 is falling off; it's not as funky as I last had in 2013 and losing it's sour touch. Flora > Plum Flora > BB Flora. Base beer just is great by itself.

Lambic/geuze -- Hommage b2 is utter *****, don't bother… (seriously, it's getting SO much better, though I loved it at initial release. Highly ISO more. 2014 St. Lam is drinking amazing for how young it is, with 2011 definitely peaking right now. The funk on the 2011 is so amplified. 50N b2 we decanted in a pitcher for about an hour before pours. Solid, but didn't really taste much cognac. OGV '08 was tart, while the '07 was more clean and refreshing. I preferred the '08. Blauw & Roze were absolute treats, as always. Blauw still the better of the pair, but still on the decline. Funk is AMAZING on it on the nose, but didn't taste as such.. and I found that Roze had a burnt rubbery flavor in the aftertaste.

Mead -- Black Agnes. Enough said.

Bourbon -- b8 ECBP tasting incredible. Much better than the oak bomb-b4. And as per usual, Mike killed it with the OGD '87 and the 24/110.

Overall, the beer was great. But the company was better!

Must be sensitive to storage or have massive bottle variation because we popped one 2 weeks ago and it was a lemon sour beer. No funk, no gueuze, just sour and lemony.

Hadn't had a chance to post this...

We went a bit crazy on HF not too long ago...

That's the bottle of DDG that I just said was like a lemon sour. You can't win 'em all!

We had more non HF as you can see in the graveyard photos.

Tasting Notes:

Ann was very good. Expertly crafted with a soft touch. That said, not worth all of the hype.

CD11 was amazing. Best beer of the day hands down.

Flora Shootout. Plum just barely beat out Cherry as both were amazing! Blueberry was just a hair behind and still fantastic. Satsuma has fallen off a bit and Black/Blue just wasn't up to par with the rest of the class.

Both the 28 month and Batch 1 Barrel Everett were tasty. The 28 month is probably right where you want it. Although the Batch one was probably a little past it's prime I'm amazed that it held up this well. Love the photocopy label!

Art was very very good as well. CD10 was good, but started off kind of odd. Really came into it's own as it warmed.

Aaron is still as good as ever. Like beer candy.

Double Citra is dreamy when it's less than a week old. Heck it's dreamy at 3 weeks old, but the difference is very apparent.

Hill Farmstead IPAs are a thing of beauty.

Was a great day with good beer and even better friends.

Hey do you happen to have any pictures of this event?

;)

I think that's it... I might be able to ask friends to send additional pics, but it would be similar. Just a different glass in front of the bottle. :D

I only see Will and Rainer in those pics. I have to assume Matt Chow was somehow involved in this affair. Incomplete ;)
