Got to go to a quasi-whale tasting yesterday:
10624940_10103449492715773_6327200784234520025_n.jpg

Highlights for me were Framboos, VSB, and Atrial. Love sours, but I'm thinking my preference for in your face fruit conveys a lack of taste sophistication. Oh well.

Other notes -
  • Crianza was the whaliest offering. I can't say it stood out from a lot of the other gueuze we had. It was more mellow and smooth, almost buttery (not in flavor, but mouthfeel).
  • Armand Lente was my favorite season, followed by fall. Fall and Winter were pretty harsh (in a good way), so having Lente after was a pleasant change.
  • T25 is still drinking well. None of the stale almost waterness of T20, though it didn't reach the levels of a lot of the other offerings.
  • No surprise but 2012 Cable Car was a lot better than 13. 2013 had a weird (someone described as "baking soda") aftertaste. 2012 had a way superior, clean finish that was just an extension of the more forward flavors, where as 2013 morphed into something weird.
  • I thought I was a sour champ, but man my insides were feeling rough by the end of this.
Good times all around. I think there were some other TBers there, so hello if you see this.
Did you get a strong wine flavor from the Crianza? Agreed on the mouthfeel

Had a Wrestlemania bottle share with RobErazo and seedavid

not pictured is a growler of Trillium Galaxy dry hopped Fort Point that came in between Dorothy and SS Kentucky.

we poured out ~3/4 of the Vanilla Rye, and then refilled the bottle with the BCBCS. It was an excellent life choice. There was a growler of Trillium Double Dry Hopped The Publick House (which was fantastic). The 12oz bottle at the end was a homebrewed sour peach saison.

Thursday night this past week with some local fellas...

First time with A&T and it was great.
Did a side by side with OG for #science

Other highlights:

Kiwi Herman- Had nice smell and overall decent.
CCBomb- ******* great, could drink all the time
LPF- Always a good time
Vig was an '11

Unlabeled bottle is a 3 Sons homebrew..

A&T/OG science experiment results?

A&T/OG science experiment results?

From what I can remember, the gap between the two in terms of my preference was that there was not a flat out winner by a huge margin. However there were noticeable differences in A&T than OG, which would make me prefer A&T.

-Look in A&T was slightly darker than OG.
-There was more carbonation in OG as well. This was a '13. The amount of carbonation affected the mouthfeel between the two for me as well, A&T had just right, while OG was like bubbly.
-A&T much more funk/barnyard layers in the nose (mainly) as well as the taste. It was like OG amped up.

I was pretty pumped up to get to try this one finally, although it also made me appreciate just the regular OG.
I am not sure the differences/bottle variation with this particular bottle, as this is the only time I have had it.
(Like what would be a good bottle vs one just ok).

I have also had OGVs on a different occasions, and I preferred my experience with those.
(I have not had Blauw, Rose, older OG, Seasons, etc. quite yet)

That being said this was delicious, unique and I would love to try again sometime! Thanks iong516

How was your LPK 12? I picked up medicinal band-aid in one I opened about 2 weeks ago. I must be sensitive to something in these beers....

We had that one late and next to V014 (which was dodgy), so it's hard to say. I had another one around Christmas and I thought it was just fine (read: awesome, as usual); didn't pick up any band-aids.

The star of the show here, though, was the '06 LPG. Damn, that was an exceptional beer; easily a Top 10 beer for me, maybe Top 5.

Very cool. Never had an older LPG. In your opinion, would you say the '06 was drinking in its prime or could improve even more with some age?

That is really, really hard to say. I don't have enough vintage experience to really be able to say, but I'll say it's really hard for me to imagine it getting better than that. I'm seriously not kidding; it wasn't just the best goozie I've had, it was one of the best beers I've ever had, period.
