"You can't have that hear, I'm afraid I'm going to have to kick you out of your friend's wedding."
"Please miss, I'll do anything if you'll let me stay."
"Hmm, I can think of a few things you could do for me..."

Yes. I want to see more beer porn. Emphasis on the porn.

Bad group, spent too much $$/beer hunting these down, too drunk to enjoy the last half? Just curious. and lol @ baby-whales

It was a great group of guys and a lot of fun to do, but we collectively probably spent too much time and $ trying to track various bottles down. Rare beers aren't needed when hanging out with friends, haha. We actually spaced out the beers over a good amount of time that no one was drunk actually.

I partook in a rare (baby whale?) beer share some friends wanted to do this past weekend. We probably spent a couple months tracking down various bottles for it. Overall, it was a very fun experience but not sure it's something I'm looking to do again soon (or ever).

Some notes (on the highlights and lowlights):

Blanc de Blancs: Some good white wine notes up front before the over-the-top sourness kicks in with an acidic finish.
Fuzzy: Overly sour as well (it mellows a bit as it warms), but the peach character is very good. I feel Side Project is overhyped.
KBBS: The maple and coffee characters are incredible (lots of caramel and dark chocolate as well), and the bourbon backbone complements it perfectly. One thing we noticed was that if you let it warm too much, the flavors completely fall apart into the individual components (definitely weird).

Life is Like
DB Huna
OGV 2008
Blabaer 2009: Fresh blueberries and pleasantly sour, with the funk coming out as it warms. Very delicious.
Persica: A perfect balance between the peaches, brett, and oak.
RW Mexican Cake: The spices were still very much present in this bottle. Very surprised at how the chilis and chocolate flavors meshed with the dark grape characters and tannic finish.
SHRBL: An incredible raspberry jam nose and flavor in the front. The finish brings out the oak but also turns a bit acidic (not overly so).
Crianza Helena: It was cool to try, but everyone agreed it was overrated. Some nice peach, citrus, and honey sweetness throughout but not particularly memorable.
Blauw: Lived up to the hype and the best geuze I've ever had. Nose has some wonderful fruit characters (peaches, lemon zest) but also the barnyard funk as well. The flavor is incredibly balanced though, as there is a nice sourness to accompany the funk as well. The beer of the night.
Moscatel Dark Lord
BVDL 2013: The worst beer of the night. It appears there may be some bottle variation with this beer, as our bottle was sour and the slight hint of vanilla left tasted like extract. Several people have told me that they've had bottles that were awesome (and there are those waving the flag for it on the other site as the BEST YEAR EVER) so it was definitely disappointing.
2014 BA Mexican Cake: I didn't particularly like any of them. The base beer is dominated by the tequila booze in the Tequila BA one and the rye in the DB BA one. The best of the 3 was probably the 4 Roses one, but the flavors didn't seem to come together fully in that one either.
Oh do you remember how was the 2008 OGV? i had a 375ml of it last year and thought it was meh. A little better than OG, and about the same level as Golden Blend. Was expecting more I guess

Sorry to hear the 2013 BVDL sucked. It was easily one of my favorite beers last year. Yeah it's super sweet, but damn it's hard to imagine anything more packed with vanilla than a BCBS vanilla fresh.

Also 2nd lol @ baby whale tasting. I'd take 3 NFL quarterback dicks to get into a tasting like that.

Thankfully I won't have to because I'm going to one in February....And there will be Blauw.

Yeah, I've heard that assessment about the BVDL 13 from others as well so I think it's luck of the draw on what bottle you end up with. It's unfortunate there seems to be such bottle variation, but it comes with the territory I suppose.

You and your group are in for a treat with Blauw though.

PHBoiler I'm sure the guy who brought the bottle was just as baffled as well. I hope you guys weren't too hard on him!

I personally thought the 2008 OGV was excellent and better than the Crianza. I got a lot of peaches on the nose, white wine notes throughout, and a nice dry finish. I thought the funk and tartness was well-balanced too.

Great share w three other local guys

Great beers overall. The unlabeled one was 89 de neve fond gueuze and the hand labelled one is bierpallieters medelambiek.

Not pictured an interesting experimental BA porter from TG

Cheers

Which was your personal favorite?
I really enjoy 99 and MG a lot. 50th just is not as good as the other two I dont think and has that noticeable menthol taste to me. We all picked 50th as our least favorite. Peconic was just so-so I thought. M is a good and very unique tasting barleywine but I have never found it mind blowing the times I have had it.

Compton25. This is relevant to your interests. You hold one of these bottles...

Got together with some good friends last weekend (none of them use TalkBeer yet for some dumb reason) and we had some good stuff:

Thoughts:

- KBBS is ******* legit. Maple for days, perfect balance. Also it wasn't as cloyingly sweet as other big-boy stouts can be. Absolutely criminal for that to be a 12oz bottle, there were four of us and 3oz of KBBS was nowhere near enough.

- SOSUS = great. Starting to thing Toppling Goliath has a future. The King Sue I domed last week was even better too.

- Elab 2 was better fresh. Still great but the pumpkin/spice notes that were there fresh are starting to fade away. Still good barrel characteristics though.

- Prop was awesome. First time having it for me. We had some coconut bits in this bottle so I'd bet it was one of the great bottles. I got a lot of coconut and a tiny bit of cinnamon (?) which worked so, so well with the BCBS base. I can only imagine it fresh if it truly was even more coconut forward then.

Basically, awesome.

DAT KATE GLASS!!!

Two man assault. With EnemyBrewer

Assassin was insane and Grisette was incredible. The SP's were way too ******* sour, unbalanced so.

What did you think of Fen Tao? I've already made my opinion of it known, but I'm curious what others think. I want to make sure I'm not crazy.

Also Joel66, you see what Cantillon opened the other day to celebrate their new building?

I'm surprised there is so much carb in a 24 year old bottle:

You didn't ask me but we tried it last week and I was not impressed at all. I preferred the strawberry one much more from the same night.
