monday funday.

blueberry flora is tits. The Sarassin is pretty damn good too.

CBS has been worse. This bottle was good though especially for the age on it and what it was originally.

B001 consecration, way past it's prime.

hanssens kriek was an 04'. Very weird.

Night shift grove, not very great. Like most stuff from them, below average.

Agreed with the above consensus. The Grand Rapids beer was one of the better stouts I've had in a while and the Khuhnenn Oud Bruin was just unreal.

Not pictured: blended (literally) pizza beer.

A good friend and his parents (also good friends of my family) had a Hudson tasting at a restaurant last week. Started with som Dom and house cured charcuterie and cheese plate. Then moved on to these courses.

House cured bacon and Perrier Jouet Rose.

House made bratwurst (caribou and suckling pig) with Hudson Single Malt bourbon.

Roasted pear purée with pickled gooseberry and vanilla salt, served with Hudson Corn Whiskey.

"Chocolate cigar" with Hudson Baby Bourbon.

And we finished up with 4 snifters of Louis XIII split among the 12 of us. I got lucky and ended up basically splitting one with another dude.

This was by far one of the best experiences of my life. The food was flawless, as were the pairings. I was absolutely floored by the generosity of my friend's parents. My buddy's dad just said "Good things for good people." I'm fortunate to have them in my life. He said that he plans to do it again, so I can only hope to be invited again. (Sorry for some the quality of some of the pics.)

acurtis, farnold, Roze, BenTenison, Jblaze36wv and a few others came over yesterday for a BBQ & share. full pics in the 6/29/14 DDT

Well twice a year my buddies and I feel the need to embrace our inner FIB and go all #whalezbroz on a Saturday. This one really took a step up from any other tasting I've been to including DLD. Really went balls deep on the BA spiced stouts (they're all great but there's only one BA Abraxas). The stouts and BWs were absolutely fantastic, but the funk lineup stole the show for me. That gin BA anniversary saison from Upright was on point. Saison du Fermier is still my favorite beer. I hope batch 2 is as good as batch 1. The Night Shift Art series has to be the most underrated wild beer out there right now. T-25 was certainly a mind blower. Like the greatest consecration you'll ever taste. I also understand the De Garde love after finally getting to try one. Delicious. Good times with good folks.

Left before the line up happened, so only captured a part of the bottles.
The FB group Lambic Lovers had their annual share at Redlight Redlight
OZfYkAy.jpg

Rose de Gambrinus '04 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> '10 & '13 (La Vie En Rose B2 surprisingly held it's own against the '13 & '10)
Lou Pepe Framboise (2010) was incredible
First time having aged De Cam, not very impressed, decent amount of acetone
Coolship Red didn't deliver the "wow" I was expecting
Cantillon Grand Cru Bruocsella '07 was horrible

Right now I'm a little nuts for Gambrinus. Haven't had one as old as 04; what was different about it?

had a nice little bottle share right in the Spring House tap room. loads of fun with ShanePB, Greenplastic615, acurtis, Jblaze36wv, darehulk112, and a few more folks.

Cross-Post from another thread. I partook in a solo whiskey tasting on Saturday night at Jack Rose in DC. Awesome BAR!!!
=======
Evening recap from the bar. I had a great time but I'd say 50% of everything I was ordering was completely gone..in fact, I got the last half ounce of Van Winkle Rye 13year and they didn't charge me and it wasn't too good but they said the bottle had been opened for a while.

Eventually, I made friends with a bartender and I told him to just open whatever he wanted and I stopped ordering off the menu and it was glorious.

Ended up spending about $250. 4 of the whiskeys I tried are not pictured below (van winkle rye, SW Old Fitzgerald (decanter '66?, FR 2009 Marriage and one of the willet ryes)

I also snapped some photos of the menu. this place is worth checking out but they have FAR more scotch than bourbon.

I also had some decent company that evening but they were all upstairs raving to techno and drinking G&Ts..it was stupid college-night or some thing. I ditched my friends and drank downstairs and it was totally chill. Dudes next to me were doing an Ardbeg tasting and writing a ton of notes. Very nice whiskey geek vibe downstairs w/ much better music.

Herfst or Zomer?

Lol how is that bizarre lil kombucha berry spritzer?

It's not really kombucha and they're pretty meh if kombucha's what you're looking for. The lemon ginger is definitely the best flavor, but they're not better than most store-bought kombucha and don't hold a candle to most homebrews.

No I filled that bottle with a kombucha and lacto wild ale i made.

No I filled that bottle with a kombucha and lacto wild ale i made.

My mistake. That sounds delicious.

Did you use the wild ale as the source of sugars for the secondary fermentation of the kombucha? How was the lacto with the kombuca? My stuff is usually acetic enough that any other type of souring would probably make it go too far. Very interested though.

Maybe buy a few bottles of Sofie or something cheap and do some kombucha blending myself.

Thanks FujOnTap for hosting an awesome tasting last night.
