Yesterday afternoon, Roze texted: "No one is really around, but feel free to come by anyway."

Turns out people (including Fahmie25) were around after all. :D

Nice. Which Voodoo bomber is that (I assume the 12 oz. are Buffalo Trace and Old Forester Black Magick)?

Small share at our favorite bar last night. Not pictured were Cycle Pallet 2, Jackie O's BA Black Maple (thank you OldMetalGuy!), Plan Bee Amour, FVM 2017, and some other stuff I didn't snap because I was busy drinking and snarking.

BT3 was absolutely wonderful, as was The Peach. We all enjoyed the AS/Evil Twin collab (thanks jupiter6xx!). Most of us thought Le Fosse B1 > B2... So much fruit in the first batch.

Great night, but now supposed to go back for the bar's Funk and Sour Event! I'm flashing back to the TB anniversary where we all overdid it Friday and dragged at the actual anniversary Saturday. Or maybe that was just me...

Jesus. Congrats on being alive right now.
Haha we started early with a decent amount of people. It's still going to be a reeeal lazy Sunday
Thoughts on the FVM? I liked last year's better and a few in the group weren't terribly impressed with this year's.
The most recent FVM and Assassin weren't awesome :(

FVM b2 had a cloyingly sweet nose and flavor (more than normal for BA DLs). Easily the worst of the bunch. The regular bourbon barrel dark lord was my favorite from the 4 variants we had last night

Round 2 of blind gueuze tasting. There was a lot of agreement amongst the group, with nobody (outside of the old man and his obviously dulled diacetyl threshold) varying outside the tiers. Thanks to leftofthedial and my dad for an awesome night.

Tier 1: Cantillon was the consensus winner for us, with Girardin and Tilquin very close behind. All great balance and complexity.
Tier 2: 3F and Boon. Just a tad behind, as all of the top 5 were great. Maybe just not quite as bright as Tier 1.
Tier 3: Mariage Parfait and De Cam. The MP was a tad thin and boring, I've had better MP bottles for sure. The De Cam was by far the most unique from the rest, not in a bad way, but it was the diacetyl that did it in. This was our first De Cam geuze (2016) , so hopefully my older bottles have cleaned up any potential issues.

The Cantillon really was a great batch, so I definitely recommend it if you have one.
Cantillon: 3/2/2015
Girardin: 4/2015
Tilquin: 2/22/2016
3F: 3/3/2016
Boon: Best by 2034 so 2014?
MP: 3/25/2015
De Cam: 2016

That may be the first time I've seen Cantillon come out on top and not middle of the pack in a blind gueuze tasting.

Seriously, was definitely expecting that based on other's past results. The 3 of us at the tasting have been drinking lambic together for many years now, and we do seem to have very similar tastes (which possibly lean Cantillon), so maybe the degree of agreement isn't too surprising. And like I said, it was a damn good bottle.

Boon was the real winner though, for $10 a 750 when its around, it definitely holds its own.

kbhess Bobby, I don't remember how our frisbee golf game ended, so I'm just gonna say I won.

Rye Black Magick is aging beautifully, and BT Black Magick batch 2 is just as good as batch 1.

Old Lost Abbey bottles are not doing well (at all), but very cool to try.

Lees Calvados 2004 is probably one of the best barleywines I've ever had. 2001 Lees is also holding up very well.

1985 Hardy's was middle of the road as far as aged Hardy's goes. Burnt oranges and caramel with a twang.

I couldn't believe how well 2014 Farm to Face is doing (and how much fruit is left).

Popinski w. peanut butter and marshmallow is one of the most intensely flavored beers I've ever had. Great to try, but no way I could drink more than a few ounces. 500% sweeter than Lees Calvados 2004, the other sweetest beer of the night.
