Sorry to piss in your Cheerios, but since when does the store have the right to sell you the kegs? Pretty sure they belong to the breweries.

Thought same, figured it was a non california thing.

Edit: as a teenager I saw fights in pub parking lots over stealing empty kegs, asuming it was when stainless steel took hold and all the scallies wantedto rob them for money.

Store nearby is going out of business and sold a group of us these 7 kegs for $500. That includes the physical kegs themselves, which we can easily put to use. Already killed the Birthday Bomb keg at a party this weekend.

Very few breweries (at least in IL) actually own their kegs unless they are exclusively self-distributing and not moving through a distributor for exactly this reason.

Thanks for the clarification. So who owns them? The distributors? I still stand by my statement that the store going out of business is likely not in a position to sell the physical keg to a customer

Normally small breweries own their own kegs. When they get large enough to sign on with a distributor, the distributor will often buy out their keg shells and "manage" them for the brewery. For larger breweries, the distributors normally own the kegs or they're leased through a company like MicroStar http://www.microstarkegs.com/

Either way, it isn't the store's property but since they're going out of business they don't give a **** and want to pad their pockets with cash before the bank comes in and takes anything with value.

Edit: Technically it's on the distributor or the brewery to come collect the keg shells if they know a store/restaurant/bar is going out of business so the kegs don't grow legs. That said, it's still not nice

Pretty sure that most stores will take an empty keg and get it back to the proper distributor and/or brewery. I've heard about New Glarus kegs ending up out east, and then finding their way home via various distributors.

First up blackgnome decided to go all undercover and get my address from Sideswipe so he could drop a little Monkish love my way. Thank you sir, I will retaliate at some point.

Then my Good Beer mule did his usual fine work in getting my beer from LA, driving it to Arizona and then shipping it up to me.

But, Sideswipe being Sideswipe he added in a couple of other things.

That is another batch #4 Santification. I think that is about 5 of these fuckers he has sent my way. As always John, thank you.
