Can't wait for my first visit here at the end of the month.

Will these bottles still be available for on site consumption?

Small thread detour.

You should roll by Upright and get the Sideline Saison if it's still on tap. Then order it 5 more times.

I thought it was crazy that there wasn't one...especially since I love them so much and have been a part of this site for 4 years...why did it take so long lol?

1) This site never really took off as much with PNWers as other parts of the country. This regional forum has always been pretty quiet

2) HOTD kinda stopped being cool about that time.

It is kinda crazy how all the interest in HotD just vanished one day.

I guess that's what happens when you don't carbonate your beers and then call a good chunk of your customer base idiots for wanting bubbles.

Hoping that things are turning around with regular carbonation. Both Cherry Adam and Maja are well carbonated. Adam, Fred, and Doggie Claws recent batches are also carbonated nicely (especially DC). Matt is flat as hell.

Can you point me to where Alan called a good chunk of his customer base idiots?

Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't recall seeing/hearing it. Might have been before I got into HotD though. I always though Alan had more of a "take it or leave it" kinda attitude.

I'm probably embellishing the wording, but he has gone after people being upset about the carbonation issues on the PNW BA forum (origin of "beer is more than bubbles", which is sadly lost after they wiped the boards and started over) and the private HotD Facebook group.

Yeah, we left it.

I still like some HOTD but I don't but bottles anymore.

I don't think that Alan is realistic about his products, probably because people kissed his ass for so long that he never heard any real feedback. 10-year-old HOTD is pretty terrible but for some reason, he thinks it ages like wine. It just doesn't and it never has.

Then he kept trying to sell terrible beer for over $1/oz. The carbonation wasn't the only problem, just the most obvious.

So we left it.

Still, I don't have any beef, they are good folks and I don't think anybody wants them to fail or anything like that.

I don't remember Alan ever coming out and name calling, he leaves that to his fanboys. But he has made remarks about carbonation and if you want it fizzy, don't buy his beers. Seems like people started getting the message, as beers like Matt have lasted weeks (or months now?). The die hard fans will still claim the bottles sell out quickly, but it's getting harder and harder to hold up that perception when 10 people were in line for the CAftW release last month and there's still a ton left.

Did Maja sell out completely over the weekend? Seemed like it was going crazy fast, much faster than I thought, even with all those 'beetus adjuncts.

As a minority HotD fanboy, I've genuinely always enjoyed around 95% of Alan's products. He has definitely had some misses in the last few years with carbonation but I honestly haven't ever let that bother me very much. I do agree with Alan that the flavors in his beers outweigh the lack of carbonation (though there have been a few exceptions; DC last year was atrocious and a few batches of Adam and Fred have been disappointing). I tend to enjoy older vintages of his beers and think that they don't fall off, in fact Adam with about 5 years is really impressive as a lot of the tobacco flavors really seem to come out. I can also understand why others do not enjoy the beer with age and without carbonation. Hopefully his recent trend of well carbonated beers (especially Barrel aged ones) continues.

This is what I recall.

Most beers don't age well. But everyone has their own weird subjective tastes.

I think so, but not 100% sure. Dat Vanilla Maple Bourbon.

Maja almost reminds me of Bourbon Maple Fred from the Wood which is my favorite HotD beer of all time. It is so damn good. Maja is close IMHO. Also, I do believe it sold out on Saturday. I didn't see any cases when I left around 12:15.

I hope to be able to try Maja on-premises when I'm in PDX at the end of March.

Alan pulled a pallet with 25-30 cases left into the back around 11:30 when the line died down. There was definitely bottles left around 12:30 when I took off.

I was there around 4pm and got bottles for a friend who was out of town. No idea if any lasted beyond that. Not a fan of their beers so I do the follow or frequent much. I'd rather spend my time four blocks away at The Commons.
