Cherry adam.. carbed yes... light on the cherry. Too light imo. Seems like they are trying to cut costs a bit. I miss the heavy handed cherry from years back.

My local grocery store had Polka Dot cans when I was there Sunday, so I grabbed one (think it was $3.79).

Terrible. Minimal carb & syrupy. Drank like a triple IPA, but is 5.5%. I went in with low expectations, and HotD managed to limbo under that bar.
Had it on tap at Belmont and it was God awful. So happy I only got a sample.

I don't get it. Their brewpub experience is really solid, but they seem to have serious difficulty getting any kind of consistency with their packaged products - for how many years now?

I hate to knock on them, because beers like Matt 2010, Adam from the Wood 2011, and Bourbon Fred 2012 are among some of the best barrel-aged beers I've ever had, and Blue Dot when it is on point is fantastic. Some of the very best beer/food pairing dinners I've ever attended have also been courtesy of them.

It's really frustrating to see a brewery that was arguably as good as any out there have so many issues with seemingly basic things like carbonation for so long now.

I think they just brought back one of their brewers from their heyday, so here's to hoping he can right the ship.

Blue Dot has been an absolute ******* dumpster fire on tap at the brewery as well. It was like really ****** home brew wart mixed with trub. Don’t give them too much credit.

But yes, what happened? Does Alan just not care enough to be concerned with QA?

He's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't care for years now.

It's very real. Cans are hitting distribution up in Seattle, along with some of the more recent From the Wood beers. Crazy compared to the old dock sale insanity days.

I'm going to be in Portland the second half of the coming week and I need to hit HotD. When I first had Adam back in 2011-12 it completely blew my mind, and I've never had any of the From the Woods beers (had Fred from the Stone, but that's the only Stone I've tried). I've known about their QC issues (or lack of caring) for years, but ****, Adam is still ******* perfect and I have to stop by for at least a beer. Any words of wisdom on what to get? Should I go for whatever From the Wood is on tap (presumably to avoid carbonation issues), or should I roll the dice and buy a bottle of, say, Cherry/regular Adam from the Wood? If so, is there a vintage of either that I should make sure I grab? Thanks! Also open to any other PDX suggestions.

They're pretty honest about which bottles are more/less carbed, but I usually spring for whatever is on draft.

Thanks, everyone. How is the food there? Looks like standard elevated-pub fare, but could probably stretch out the visit with my wife if we could make an honest lunch out of it.

I think the food used to be really great but its gone way downhill and I won't eat there anymore. I'd recommend Bunk Bar, Shalom Y'all, Wayfinder or Produce Row nearby for food.

Really? I can't say I've noticed much change at all. Perhaps it's just that some of the newer options nearby have raised the bar?

Could have been bad luck, but I had a few bad experiences in a row. I still love going in for beers on draft though.
