Trying to get through watching at least some of the Packer-Steeler pre-season game replay..

Ugggggggg

It's like a 'who can suck more' contest.

So you're analyzing preseason football? pffft.. I have lost all respect for you (as if there was any initially)

What's the point again? every non NFL football team in history can set a depth chart without four pretend games, right?

In the last round of negotiations, didn't the owners try to extend the season to 18 games and drop two preseason games, but the union wouldn't agree due to injury risk (to starters, of course)? As is, it's nuts that 1/5 of the tickets a season ticket holder buys are for the preseason.

I don't get the bitching about preseason, honestly. From the fans' perspective, yes, but not from the players'. Yes, it's four more games where someone can get hurt - but the star players never play in the fourth game, usually only play a handful of snaps in the first game, and probably play a total of 6-7 quarters in total. If they cut back to two preseason games, how many quarters do you think Aaron Rodgers is likely going to play? Maybe... six or seven quarters to get ready for the season?

The preseason's for the guys who are trying to MAKE the roster, give them an opportunity to make some plays and have some tape on them for other teams to review. When your team does such a good job at finding talent from all over the place - undrafted free agents who make game-winning plays in the Super Bowl, for example - it's nice that there are these kinds of opportunities for the non-stars to distinguish themselves.

How come college, high school, Canadian, arena, lingerie, pop warner and flag football teams can all seem to set a roster without some fancy scrimmages?

Football also has the shortest season though.. including preseason and postseason games.

If football had a ridiculous 82 or 162 game season.. there would be more time to inject lower tier and upcoming players to gauge their abilities against other opponents.

if only one of those skins QBs thought to deflate the footballs a little bit they'd probably have turned a decent career.
