... well, did anyone ASK him to kind of "make sure you stand in the way on punt returns, m'kay?" If he acted entirely of his own accord, you fire the guy, you probably fine the team (something comparable to what a player would get fined for a dirty hit on the field), and you move on.

If there's more to it than that....

It's still odd that it was a coach, not a player. Like, I could totally see Rodney Harrison having done that - in fact, I'd be surprised if he DIDN'T do that at one point or another. The fact that it was someone who's not even playing, that somehow just seems to make it worse. Like, there's zero possibility for retribution on the field, if someone makes a dirty play but it's on the field they know there's a decent chance they're going to get punched in the nuts the next time there's a pileup.

Gotta say, this is a fantastic season for us Seahawk fans. A cutthroat battle to the playoffs between two 6-7 teams. I think we can beat the Rams. We just have to hold off 5-7 San Francisco that's making a move!

I am proud to say that my pre-season prediction was spot on:

Being a Jaguars fan I saw this. Both the Jags and Panthers got major 'special considerations' and is why both were relatively successful very early on.

Big game this weekend for the Jags (vs. the Colts).

That Jets strength/cond coach thing was strange in that it was kind of obvious why all those guys were standing side-by-side, with their toes on the line, feet shoulder-width apart so they have good balance, on a return, etc. They may not have been instructed to stick their knee out but they were obv there to be an obstruction to a gunner that was forced out-of-bounds.

WR Santonio Holmes said yesterday that the reason be came off the field as the punt returner Sunday against Miami was because he'd become so frustrated with how well Dolphins punter Brandon Fields was kicking he begged out of the game, giving way to CB Antonio Cromartie .

"It wasn't fun because the guy was kicking it 60 or 70 yards and he didn't give me a chance to get going," Holmes said. "I was upset. I kind of got frustrated and didn't even want to return punts because of way he was punting the ball.

"I got tired of him punting. Every time he got back to punt, this guy was standing on his own goal line and he's punting it to our 15-yard line. I'm like, 'Who does that?' I told 'West' (special teams coach Mike Westhoff), 'You can send someone else back there. There's no way I want to return 97-yard punts.' "

Well, at least you don't have to withstand the continual coverage over there about how the big condom broke and "ain't got no game" because of it. There was a 90 minute special report on Sunday. And now it's all about shoveling and if there is gonna be beer for sale (guess not). Plus players past & present interviews about playing outside. And of course if Brett McFavre might be the QB this Monday since TJ was one and done.

As a former high school and college punt returner, the thing that strikes me is that a long punt gives you more opportunity for a long run back...you'd have room to work with. If he was talking about hangtime, at least he would have a point. Based on his drop in the end zone, I think Holmes left his hands at home anyway...you need sure hands on a punt return, first and foremost. Meanwhile, the Jets are absolutely finished. In the four biggest games this season, they failed to score even a single offensive TD. I will be surprised if they are able to hang on until the playoffs. Rex Ryan needs to make a QB change. Sanchez may be a nice kid, but he is not leading them. He is a liability, even when he is playing very careful ball-control. It is a well-repeated among NFL analysts that the Jets have a below average D-line/no quality pass rush. Their offensive line is good, but because slightly Metrosexual Sanchez is can't make anything happen in the air consistently, all defenses need to do is key on the run to stop the Jets. All they have is the occasional homerun ball. --I am a proud New Yorker, by the way, and a Jets fan, but it is over for this team. Sanchez has no ability to use the center of the battlefield. Keller running WR out patterns. This was exactly what the pre-Boss Shockey era was like for the Giants. When young Eli Manning learned to stand in and hit the TE and the slant routes, they beat the Patriots. I don't see Jets going anywhere. Giants look good, though. Okay.
