I don't often make beer but am thinking of making a six pack (literally). My idea is to make a tea from some peanuts (cook the roasted nuts in a slow cooker for about 24 hours and use the tea (nuts removed) to make a wort using a pound of extract and a pack of hop pellets I have (half for 15 minute boil + remainder added at flameout). My question: how likely is it that this tea will kill or diminish any head on this beer? Thanks.

not sure if the method you are describing will deal with the oils created by the nuts. I would think you would need to skim any visible oil off of the tea best you could in hopes of not killing head retention.

If you are just trying to make a peanut beer there is a peanut powder that has the oil removed called pb2 or tru nut and either of those may work better. I see the stuff all the time quite cheap at tjmaxx in the spice section. my grocery store sells it as well.

If you are just trying for an experiment, ice say give it a go and skim what you can.

Thanks jekeane. I am more interested in the experiment - I've made a mead before with chestnuts in the same fashion and was simply thinking about whether peanuts might work in the same way - The tea made from chestnuts tasted remarkably sweet (and was oil free) and the mead (made with Polish acacia honey) is just about ready for priming and bottling.
