I have read that you can boil some spent yeast to use as yeast nutrient. I happen to have some nutritional yeast in the cupboard that my wife got at the health food store for some unknown reason. Could I use this stuff as yeast nutrient?

Do you mean the yellow flaky stuff that kind of tastes cheesy/nutty? I suppose you could, but it's probably gonna impart some sort of flavor to your beer depending on how much you use. If you're really looking to give your yeast a boost, I'd just spend a few bucks on Fermax or something similar at your LHBS.
