Not understanding the lids and Hop Bongs on All Rounder fermenters

This is about minimizing oxygen, and the lid choices on the All Rounder. My confusion may be due to my being new to hop bongs.

I'm looking at buying a Kegland All Rounder. Thirty liter.

It comes with a lid fitted for gas and liquid posts. All good. You can pressurize and do closed transfers, like the corny kegs I've been using.

And here's a picture of gas and liquid quick disconnects, screwed on. This guy is doing a closed transfer. Good. He's using spunding valves. Good.

But I also want to dry hop using a hop bong. But to do that I need a lid with a 2 inch tri clamp fitting. They do sell these as an accessory for the All Rounder,

But here's the weird thing. In the picture above, what looks like gas and liquid posts, are not. The site says that of the three undrilled ports one is for a thermowell and the other two are for an immersion chiller. And in videos I have seen one post used as a gas port, but there is no liquid port, no dip tube. They talk about "the two gas ports"

It seems then, that when you have used your hop bong, then you have to remove the lid and put the default lid, one that will allow for quick disconnect posts, for your eventual closed transfer.

This is not good. How can we protect the wort from oxygen if we have to open up the fermenter and swap lids?

It would seem that my existing five gallon corny kegs do a better job. You can get a lid with a TC connect, to hold the bong. But you still have the gas and liquid posts on the side, so you never have to open the fermenter up to the air. Once you pitch your yeast, the product never touches the outside air util it pours into your pint glass to drink.


Instead of using a bong, you just have your co2 tank run positive pressure while you quickly remove the gas/liquid post lid, dump in pellets against the upward flowing co2 gas and close the lid. So now it's ready for a closed transfer. That's not a perfect system, but it's the same thing as having a hop bong and swapping lids.

Your thoughts are appreciated.
 
in the picture below carb caps are screwed onto the pco ports to make qd posts.

the cooling coil is akward IMO. if you havent bought one yet you may want to rethink it./ i have found it less hassel to just toss the whole fermenter in a ferm chamber thats tall enough to handle the zilla height with added hop bong.

cooling coils are a PITA to clean after they get all that kreusen gunk on them,. and the chillers are chillers. great if they are 2-4 thousand dollar glycol units. otherwise you are always fiddling with something.

i would much sooner get the allroudner with hop bong and toss it in a fridge with inkbird. (cheaper than glycol chiller also)
 
That's exactly what I have done. I put the fermenter in a spare downstairs fridge and control it with an Inkbird. I use cornies.

I am running a mash right now and am looking forward to using Bobbi's hop bong in a few days.
