Well I am new to brewing and jumped it feet first after wanting to brew for years. I started with all grain. I brewed my fourth batch a little over a week ago. Its a black ipa. Well my question is it has been over a week and still have stuff on top of beer. Not sure if it is infected or not. looks like yeast particles to me. Will there still be stuff on top like this after a week it had an OG of 1.070. Please let me know what yall think. Thanks

It could be left over krausen or yeast rafts. A pic might help. I rarely pay attention to my wort until after 2 weeks. Some clear off quickly some longer. It being a high gravity beer will probably make it take longer.

I have a pair of carboys under strict temperature control that have run 9 days since pitching and still have a thin layer of foamy cruft on top. It's totally typical - for an ale, anyway - looks just like a hundred other fermentations I've run.

You're fine. And patience is your best friend in all things brewing :)

Cheers!

Couldn't agree more. I can't think of a single ale I've done that didn't have krausen and/or yeast rafts on top after a week. Rarely does every bit of particulate matter drop to the bottom with most typical ale yeasts.

Thanks guys really hope its ok. might take a pic if doesnt start to clean up.

I had a batch recently with wyeast northwest ale that had a full krausen still after two weeks. 3 weeks in completely done.

So many beers... so little time.
