hello,
this is my first foray into home brewing.
Being making ginger beer which seemed so lively that I got some demijohns to see what happened.
That is bubbling away cheerfully after 3 weeks.
tried to make some fruit wine next.
7lbs fruit ( pear, plum ); 3 and 1/2 lbs sugar; 6 litres water.
smashed up the fruit in a blender (next time use juicer ), added everything to a bucket + 1 packet wine yeast.
left it in the bucket for 6 days, was frothing a lot when stirring once a day but not frothing so much on day 6 (yesterday ) when sieved it and put in 2 demijohns last night.
Is hardly bubbling compared to ginger beer.
Could I have killed the yeast with too much sugar to start with ?
Is there any harm adding more yeast to demijohn ?
waiting for liquid to settle before trying to make sense of hydrometer.
There is a difference in the level of the 2 sides of the bubbler so I don't think the bung is leaking gas.

cheers
mick

Depends on your yeast health but I'd expect most fermentations to be mostly finished in 6 days. Did you take an initial gravity reading? What's the gravity reading now?

hydrometer says .996 ?
didn't measure to begin with as liquid was full of mashed fruit which I thought would be inaccurate.
didn't appreciate fermentation was so quick.
