Hey guys,

I'm trying to clean out my basement of some older grains that I have had sitting around. I've also had some Northern Brewer and Vanguard Hops that I'd like to make disappear at the same time.

I haven't taken inventory yet on the grains, but I know I have a bunch of Pilsner, a good amount of 2-Row and some Peated Malt, possibly some Honey Malt there as well. I'd like to use a bunch of it tomorrow if I could for a rather impromptu brew day. Any ideas come to mind? I also (will) have a fresh yeast cake of 1056 to use, as I'll be transferring a Pale Ale off of it and into secondary just before the boil finishes.

Thanks in advance for any input you might pass along.

Cheers,

Mark

Northern Brewer would go well in any of the British Ale styles. Stouts, Bitters, Pale, Scottish, and IRAs would all be good.

Cali Common? All Northern Brewer.

I use Northern Brewer as my bittering hops in continential styles, match that up with the pilsner & an ounce of nobles and make an alt or koelsch.

That's kind of what I was thinking.

10# 2-row/Pils mix
1# Honey Malt

Hopped with 1 oz. NB (60) and 1 oz. Vanguard (10-15ish)

Very basic recipe, but the Honey Malt scares me a bit. I like balanced beers, and Honey Malt seems to be very over powering.

Some people find it overpowering at 1lb. Ive used 1 lb in a honey brown and liked it.

You Cut it down to .5 lb or .75 lb.
