Anybody ever use nzh 214 in a hazy?
Is the 1:1:1 with Cryo? So 1:2:1 if not using Cryo? Thanks. It's a great hop combo so have you to thank there. Went with your recommendation of 1:1:1 Riwaka: Citra Cryo: Nelson. I'd over analysed the beer so much I convinced myself it wasn't very good. First time using Riwaka and it's beautiful, bangs of NZ goodness. I got 24 Nelson from hop alliance and it's a bit underwhelming again. Hasn't got that horrible woody/vegetable character that the 23 crop from YVH had but still lacking that real diesel vibe from a few years ago.
Coastal haze is a great yeast too, finished exactly where I wanted. Here's the recipe if anyone is interested.
OG 1.084 FG 1.021
Coastal Haze Gen 1
Low Colour Golden Promise 69%
Oat Malt 11%
Flaked Oats 9%
Chit 6%
Spelt 5%
Coastal Haze!!! (Great job in the comp!)Got gold over the weekend with a score of 44 for this Rakau/Citra cryo/Nelson. Got about half way through best of shoe before getting eliminated. Delighted with the result, highest score ever in a competition too.
Very happy with the beer, has great hop saturation and Rakau is a beautiful hop. First time using Coastal Haze too. Love it's profile, best body and mouthfeel I've ever had in one of my beers. Thanks @Dgallo for the hop combination

I wouldn't say exactly 1:2:1 but more like 1:1.5:1Is the 1:1:1 with Cryo? So 1:2:1 if not using Cryo?
I still haven’t nailed a house hazy for my rotation so definitely want to try this.
Thanks for the tips on it. Beautiful yeast.Coastal Haze!!! (Great job in the comp!)
My last NEIPA I ended up having to dump the keg so did a deep dive into a lot of different aspects. Looked at what I thought worked and more importantly didn't work in my past brews. Tweaked the water profile. I changed up the grain bill based on what @Genuine posted (thanks man). Wort pH and getting better efficiency out of the system I use. Whirlpool/hopstand @ 170 for about 30 minutes. I had some Citra, Simcoe and Azacca still lying around so used those and happy with that combo. I got a great deal on a barely used tri-conical fermzilla so being able to dry hop (after dumping the yeast) and transfer oxygen free I think made a big difference. Overall just reading what has worked for others was a huge help.@rhoadsst man that’s one of the most encouraging posts! What are the changes that made a difference for you? The
The last 2 times I’ve placed in a Hazy category (bronze & gold), I’ve used Coastal Haze.Coastal Haze!!! (Great job in the comp!)
Coastal haze it’s white labs Conan and Sach trois blend. It’s their equivalent to Imperial - Dryhop A24. I really enjoy dryhop but haven’t used it in the past year or soThe last 2 times I’ve placed in a Hazy category (bronze & gold), I’ve used Coastal Haze.
Doesn’t mean a heck of a lot but using it can’t hurt!
I've only used Coastal Haze once but it behaves pretty differently to A24. A24 is a lot more attenuating, always finished in the low teens for me where CH finished at 1.021 with the same mash temperature. A24 also has a much quicker ferment, 3/4 done in 36-48 hours where CH was closer to a week to be fully done. All Imperial yeast's have finished super quick for me. This beer with CH has a much creamier finish but I'm sure the increased body from the higher FG is helping there. Flavour profile does seem pretty similar. Will be interesting to see how CH performs on future generations for me.Coastal haze it’s white labs Conan and Sach trois blend. It’s their equivalent to Imperial - Dryhop A24. Haven’t used Coastal haze so I can’t speak from any experience, I’m just going off the strains in the blend. Coastal is STA1+ as well with the same sacc trois strain as dryhop uses, so it should behave pretty similarly from an attenuation standpoint. White labs claims 76-82% attenuation for coastal and imperial claims 74-78% for dryhop, so ending in the 1.020 would be an uncommon experience for a single or double ipa with this strain.I've only used Coastal Haze once but it behaves pretty differently to A24. That's the beauty of homebrew, so many different variables that no two brewers will experience the same results. The Coastal Haze I got was very fresh but can't remember what age the A24 was. Wondering on the last brew did it go a bit weird on me with how low it went.Haven’t used Coastal haze so I can’t speak from any experience, I’m just going off the strains in the blend. You may of gotten a slightly older bag of coastal so that the Conan did the bulk of fermentation and the sac trios cell count was lower so the sta1 didn’t effect the composition of the sugars prior to you packaging

Coastal Haze is an absolute beast for me. Performs much differently than Conan alone and definitely different than A24. It absolutely rips through my wort, usually in less than 3 days. Typically 78% @68F. I shoot for a 1.070 OG and routinely get 1.015 FG. Seems like it would be dry, but it's actually a nice round mouthfeel, and the DH makes her juicyThat's the beauty of homebrew, so many different variables that no two brewers will experience the same results. White Labs is easier and cheaper for me to get so I'll go with this strain for a while, till I get board with it anyway and need to experiment again.
Hell yeah man! Good job! I got to a mini BoS but got bumped before the final. I too got a 43 and the 1st place winner got a 42I agree completely about coastal haze, I've earned 2 blue ribbons and a best in show recently with my hazy and I've been using coastal haze exclusively for a few years now. I had tried a few others before settling on coastal haze and now I overbuild my starter and keep some, currently on my 4th generation with this round. The beer that scored 43 and 44 in the comps was the 3rd generation.
Honestly, I would any of those yeasts over 1318.Interesting discussion, and relevant for me at this time as well. I probably drink more IPA's than any other style, but I'm really just beginning to brew them. I have a recipe all planned out for my first hazy, but I'm still waffling on which yeast to use. I'll have to place an online order for whichever yeast I decide to go with, and I can choose from Wyeast, White Labs, or Imperial. I'm thinking 1318, A38 Juice, or Coastal Haze, but I'm leaning towards 1318 for this first go-round.
24 rakau is phenomenalCertainly not my greatest picture, bad lighting today with cloud cover again.
HAZY TIPA at 10.1% featuring freestyle rakau, freestyle Nelson and citra cryo & lupomax.

Why is that? Personal preference, or some other reason? Seems to me there’s a lot of folks using that yeast for neipa’s.Honestly, I would any of those yeasts over 1318.
Very peachie/ stone fruit. Worked great with Nelson and Conan yeast24 rakau is phenomenal![]()
from my experience, all beers brewed with laIII taste and smell the very similar and don’t showcase the hopes. Why is that? Personal preference, or some other reason? Seems to me there’s a lot of folks using that yeast for neipa’s.
I agree, it's unreal, just wish I got more.24 rakau is phenomenal![]()
Looks beautiful as always.Certainly not my greatest picture, bad lighting today with cloud cover again.
